Accomodation Ideas for a 504 plan

Introduction: The 504 plan is designed to provide equal access to education, fostering an environment that supports the success of students. Collaboration among parents, teachers, and school personnel is essential in developing and implementing effective plans. Regular reviews ensure adjustments align with the student's progress and evolving needs.

Understanding ADHD: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder impacting attention, impulsivity, and activity levels.

Accomodations:

Extended Time on Assignments and Tests

Allow additional time for completing assignments and tests to accommodate potential challenges with focus and time management.

Frequent Breaks

Permit short breaks during class to help the student manage energy levels and attention span.

Quiet or Distraction-Reduced Environment

Provide a designated quiet space or allow the use of noise-canceling headphones to minimize distractions during independent work or testing.

Preferential Seating

Allow the student to sit in a location with minimal distractions, such as near the front of the classroom or away from high-traffic areas.

Use of Fidget Tools

Allow discreet fidget tools (e.g., stress ball) to help the student channel excess energy and maintain focus.

Visual Supports

Provide visual aids, charts, or organizers to help the student organize tasks, assignments, and schedules.

Clear and Concise Instructions

Present instructions and information in a clear and concise manner, breaking down complex tasks into smaller steps

Structured Routine

Establish a consistent daily routine to provide predictability and help the student manage transitions between activities.

Behavioral Support Plans

Develop and implement behavior intervention plans that outline strategies for managing impulsivity and promoting positive behavior.

Use of Technology

Allow the use of assistive technology, such as speech-to-text software or organizational apps, to aid in note -taking and organization.

Parent-Teacher Communication

Establish open communication between parents, teachers, and other relevant school staff to monitor progress and discuss any concerns.

Regular Check-Ins

Schedule regular check-ins with a designated staff member (e.g., school counselor) to discuss progress, challenges, and adjustments to the 504 plan.

Modified Homework Assignments

Individualized Goal Setting

Collaborate with the student to set realistic, individualized goals for academic and behavioral success.
