January 2025
Beat the winter chill at the library this season. We're kicking off the year with some exciting programs and events!
January 21st we're hosting an Onyx Storm Release Party where we will bling our book! We invite you to bring your personal copy of Fourth Wing and we will guide you through applying rhinestones to the cover. We’ll provide the supplies, including rhinestones, glue, applicators, and everything else you need to bring your vision to life. No party is complete without tasty treats, themed mocktails, and photo ops!
If dragon riding isn’t your speed, there are plenty of other programs this winter.
- January 9 - We'll create hot chocolate bombs at Hot Cocoa Creations
- February 12 - We're hosting Brie Mine, Valentine, a special Galentine’s celebration where the owner of Mokey’s will guide us through creating the perfect charcuterie board and then we’ll savor the delicious results.
- February 20 - Create your own reverse applique sweatshirt on February 20 at Lettered with Love.
Parents, we also have an exciting new teen book club, led by Brittany, our Collections Manager. The 'Adult-ish Book Club' is intended for teens ages 16+ and they will read both YA and adult books that are appropriate for a teen audience. They'll come together one time per month to hang out, enjoy snacks, and discuss their thoughts on the book of the month. January's book is A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson.

Behind the Scenes: Staff Spotlight
Sarah, Youth Services Clerk
Meet Sarah, who has been a valued member of the DCTPL team for 10 months! A lifelong resident of Danville, Sarah attended Danville Community Schools and later graduated from Ivy Tech Community College. She was inspired to work at the library because of the special role it played in her childhood and her love of books. Sarah’s favorite part of her job is helping patrons, and her warm, welcoming presence makes her a favorite among library visitors.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys expressing her creativity through art, writing, journaling, and reading. She also has a knack for finding four-leaf clovers—a unique talent! At home, Sarah shares her space with five beloved cats. Some of her favorite things include the book The Eyes and The Impossible by Dave Eggers, the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, and the TV show Natsume's Book of Friends. Sarah loves spending time outdoors and often visits Clifty Falls State Park and Blanton Woods. If she could have any superpower, she would choose shapeshifting, and if given the chance to meet a historical figure, she’d love to connect with the artists behind the ancient cave art in the Chauvet Caves in France.
We’re so lucky to have Sarah’s passion and creativity as part of the library team!

Patron and Staff Book Reviews
'Thank You For Listening' by Julia Whelan
Our Programming Manager, Kaylee, is sharing the following review:
"I finished this book a while ago, and I honestly can't stop thinking about it. Maybe this book just found me at the right time, but something has made this story really stand out. The exploration of family dynamics especially stuck with me (looking at you Blahblah), there is some very swoon-worthy yet realistic romance, and Julia's incredible narration makes this novel a very memorable experience. The author's note at the end is also a very poignant look into the life of someone who has had to change their life's plan, and adds a lot of real-world merit into a mostly fictional story."
