STUDENT SERVICES AT BMS
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great first few days, and I’m excited that we’re heading into our first full week of school together. As we get into our routines, I want to remind us of how important it is to believe in our students. Our students need to know that we believe in them, especially when they may not believe in themselves. The way we talk to students, encourage them, and stick with them when things get tough can make a bigger difference than we sometimes realize. As a staff, we have the opportunity every day to remind students that they are capable and that we won’t give up on them. When we believe in our students and show them that we do, we can help them believe in themselves too.

INTERESTING FACT
Teacher belief matters because when teachers have high expectations for their students, they provide challenging work and meaningful feedback that encourages growth. Students often begin to see themselves through their teacher’s perspective, which can build confidence and motivate them to work harder. Teachers who believe in their students are also more patient and persistent when students struggle, rather than giving up on them. Ultimately, when students feel that their teachers believe they are capable of success, they are more likely to develop confidence, persevere through challenges, and make meaningful academic growth.

THOUGHT TO START OUT THE WEEK...
GENTLE REMINDERS FOR STAFF
- Please reach out to the student's Case Manager first if you have any questions or concerns about a student in your class.
- It is a legal requirement that General Education teachers, not Special Education teachers, take the time to completely fill out the document that case managers send out, by the deadline given, so that they can thoroughly fill out the IEP.
- Accommodations are designed to remove barriers caused by a disability, so students have equitable access to instruction and assessment without lowering academic standards or giving answers. They level the playing field by changing how a student learns or demonstrates knowledge, allowing students to show what they truly know.
- It is a legal requirement to have both the General Education teacher and the EL teacher attend an IEP meeting. Please let me know if you have any questions.
- Please remember to email Ariana when you are scheduled to attend an IEP meeting. I send her a list, but sometimes the teacher changes and she is unaware.
GENTLE REMINDERS FOR CASE MANAGERS
- Encore departments are now separated into three groups, please email Bill Winters, Dave Ellett and Deana Berardi to request input or a teacher to attend a meeting. A master spreadsheet will be shared with you with the input they are providing.
- The AR Calendar will be finalized this week, please look over your dates and let me know if there are any changes needed.
- Please see the NDSEC Professional Opportunities linked below. Please let me know if you plan on signing up for any sessions.
- Please remember to invite the EL Specialist to the IEP meeting. It is a legal requirement and imperative that everyone contribute in the meeting.
- Please remember to upload a link to the IEP Summary on the PowerSchool Accommodations page.
