South Davis Shines
February 3, 2026
A Message from Mr. Dolce
Hello South Davis Families.
As part of the Great Kindness Challenge, we are encouraging students to perform acts of kindness to promote respect, unity, and compassion. To help celebrate that effort, we are recognizing these acts on a display in the Library hallway, in a Nemo-related theme. When a student is "caught" being kind, an adult will give the student a fish sticker and then write about their kind deed on a paper fish. This fish is then added to the net in the display, which grows each day!
We hope the urge to be kind extends beyond school, and that you are seeing these acts of kindness and selflessness at home, too.
Have a great week!
Mr. Dolce

How We SHINE!
This month we are focused on the character trait of Encouraging Resilience. Resilience is the ability to persevere through di cult or challenging moments. As parents and caregivers, it's important that we help children develop this trait early, so they have can respond to adverse situations in a thoughtful and productive way. The temptation to step in and help is real, but removing all barriers can actually inhibit children's ability to develop this trait on their own.
Here is a simple idea for a conversation at home to reinforce the dialogue happening at school:
- Explain that things will not always go our way.
- Share an example of a time that something did not go the way you wanted it to, and allow your child to do the same.
- Ask your son or daughter what they can do when something does not go their way and brainstorm ideas (say “that’s okay!” try it again later, do something else, etc.).
Together, we will SHINE!
Parent Information Series
The Orchard Park Family Solutions Center, located at 75 Bank St., supports district and community families with school-age children by providing direct counseling services to families, hosting parenting classes, and providing resources. The mental health professionals at the Family Solution Center will work with families to promote problem-solving strategies to develop healthy relationships using solution-focused communication.
One of the resources is the Parent Information Series. Tonight the topic is Discussing Nutrition with Students and Student Athletes, at 6:00 p.m. in the Orchard Park Middle School Auditorium.
This presentation will be a valuable resource for all adults who work closely with student athletes. Students are also encouraged to attend.
Parenting Enrichment Series
Check out the latest offerings from the Family Solutions Center.
This Friday, the Orchard Park Central School District will be participating in Pajamas for P.U.N.T. Students and staff will have the opportunity to wear pajamas to benefit P.U.N.T., the Pediatric Cancer Collaborative. The fundraiser will be supporting the "Helping Hands" Program. This program is a financial safety net for WNY families in pediatric cancer treatment.

If you are interested in donating, please visit the link below. You do not need to donate in order for your child to wear pajamas Friday!
Updates and Reminders
Arrival and Dismissal Safety Reminders
It's very important for everyone's safety - students, parents, and staff - that parents adhere to these procedures at arrival and dismissal.
- Stay in your vehicle (except Pre-K parents). We can assist when necessary.
- Stay on sidewalks; do not walk in the Front/Bus Loop and do not approach buses.
- Use the crosswalk to cross South Davis Street, even if you are parked by the dentist or the wood shop.
- Follow the pick-up procedure - drive into the parking lot, around the back of the lot, and back onto the street. Do not jump the line.
- Students should only exit and enter vehicles on the passenger side.
- Students should only be dropped off on South Davis Street at the curb - do not let your child get out of the car in the parking lot or in the middle of the street! It is a major safety issue, and it disrupts the rest of the process.
- Be patient and show grace during the process.
- The speed limit on South Davis Street is 15 m.p.h. from 7:00 a.m-6:00 p.m.
- Pre-K parents are asked to park and walk their child to the building. This means that Pre-K parents may not join the parking lot loop; instead they will find open parking spots on the street. Be assured they are not cutting the line.
