Need to Know
Winter sports tryouts:
Hockey tryouts are complete for four of our teams open to Grade 7&8 players. There will also be a house league hockey team/winter Phys. Ed. class that will follow the Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (Senior School) phys. ed. schedule. Reach out to Mike Baslyk if your son is interested in joining, and select it as your first choice in the Winter Phys. Ed. options form (linked above).
All Grade 7&8 players who are interested in playing futsal will participate in tryouts in the first week of November. More details to come.
Basketball tryouts for both bantam teams (Grade 7&8 players) are Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25 from 9:30-11am in the Speirs gym. Plan to attend both tryout dates if you’re serious about joining a team! Wear SHS PE clothing, athletic shoes and bring a water bottle.
We encourage everyone who has an interest to participate in tryouts! There are multiple team options and having everyone try out together will give coaches a better idea of how to accommodate as many players as possible on the available teams.
New Tutorials:
Students can now attend the French & Geo tutorial on Thursdays at lunch (12:45-1:25) in MS-8 for support in those subjects.
Starting next week, Mr. Roy and Mme Jean will host WOW sessions (Work Out your Worries) every Tuesday from 12:45-13:20 in MS-8. This supervised homework time will provide a quiet and calm work environment with support for students wishing to take this time to stay on top of their work. No sign up required.
Weekly math and science tutorials continue as well. We encourage students to take advantage of these resources!
Lucas House Day - Wednesday Oct 14: This year we are introducing house days to the whole school. Each house will have an opportunity to be celebrated throughout the year. First up, we have Lucas House Day! On Wednesday, October 14th students from Lucas House are invited to wear their house t-shirt to school in place of their uniform shirt, along with their uniform pants and school shoes. All other students must come to school in their full uniform. Middle School students will learn about the history of Lucas Algernon at assembly that day. There will also be lunchtime activities.
Re-enrollment Forms for 2027–28 were emailed to families today, Thursday, October 8. Please sign electronically and submit the online re-enrollment form by November 1. Families received an email with a mySelwyn link to complete the form. We kindly ask that you submit the form by the deadline to assist with our planning, as we currently have waitlists for most grades. You can also find the form in mySelwyn by clicking on the “Form to Review” notice at the top of the page. Please note that only one parent is required to digitally sign the form. If you require assistance, please contact Ms. Kelli Poulin at poulink@selwyn.ca.
Message from the PVA: All parents are warmly invited to join the PVA for a Parent Walk on October 16! We’ll meet at 8:45 AM at the Smith House on Montréal Street, where we’ll enjoy some coffee before heading out for a leisurely jaunt around Westmount. Come for the coffee, the fresh air, and the chance to connect with fellow parents. Dogs are very welcome, too!
Holiday Marketplace at SHS December 2nd: With the holiday season just around the corner, the PVA is excited to announce it is organizing our third Holiday Marketplace on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd. Keeping sustainability in mind, after the November break the PVA will start collecting gently used items including toys, games, books, puzzles, holiday decorations, small household goods and more, for resale to students, staff and family members in a holiday market format. All the money raised will benefit a local charity. It's a great opportunity for parents to get involved as the PVA will need many volunteers to help man market stalls, contribute baked goods, items for sale, etc. We will have more information coming in the next few weeks. To get involved, please email amandajelowicki@hotmail.com
