Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
As a quick reminder, our students DO NOT have school on Monday, September 15th as our staff will be engaging in a Professional Development day. If your teen tells you this and you didn’t know, they are actually telling you the truth! We hope they enjoy their extra day!
We have a lot going on during the four days that our students will be with us next week. We have a four-day donation period of dress clothing as we move towards our “Blessed with a Dress” event on Friday, September 19th. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to “shop”, for free, for a variety of homecoming attire! We have picture day for our students in grades 9-11 on September 17th, and parent teacher conferences on September 18th. Take a few minutes to register for conferences so that we can work with you to help our students have a successful school year.
You will notice that I often encourage us to keep our teens connected to school. This happens through keeping them involved in athletics, the arts, or all of our other after school activities. We know that if high school students stay engaged, they perform better in school. In Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation, he addresses some ways to specifically help teens avoid the traps of smartphone addiction. “As your children get older, increase their mobility and encourage them to find part-time jobs and ways to learn from other adults. Consider an exchange program, a summer wilderness program, and a gap year.”
Let us know if you need any help getting your high school student connected with a group. We would be happy to help!
In service to our Bulldogs.

Hello, Families,
Thank you to the majority of our students arriving at school on time. We’ve observed a decrease in tardiness to begin the year. The students parking and driving on campus have also been doing a better job being safe. Lastly, students that are parking on campus with a paid parking pass need to park in their assigned parking spot. If there are any questions or issues, please have your student come see me.
Thank you, and have a nice weekend.
