Western Valley Elementary ROAR

Hello Wildcat families,

We had a busy & great week at WVE! Thank you to all of the families who joined us in person and virtually for our 1st Q Awards Assemblies! We had great attendance, and loved celebrating our students!

Student Council brought a special assembly for Red Ribbon Week, where several Sergeants from the National Guard presented some history and examples of ways our students can live a healthy life by staying drug free. Our students all signed a pledge that they will make healthy and safe choices!

WVE will be hosting our annual Book Character Wellness Walk this Friday 10/30, where students are invited to dress up like a book character, and we'll run & walk laps on the field in the morning. Families are welcome to join us for this fun event, and come in costume if you'd like! All visitors must sign into the office with a photo ID before being allowed on campus, so please plan accordingly. As always, no face covering masks or props will be allowed outside for the Wellness Walk, so please leave those at home. If you would like to bring in treats for the class, please be sure they comply with the state law regarding food coloring and banned ingredients. And since everything brought in needs to be checked by the front office before going to the front office, bringing in treats early is recommended!

Tickets are now on sale for the Aja Calhoun Thanksgiving Dinner! This community favorite event will feature student performances, teacher & staff-served Thanksgiving Dinner, raffle prizes, a bake sale, and so much fun! You can buy tickets at parent pick-up with cash, or Zelle PTO @ jreeser@fesd.org

Tickets are on sale until November 10, and we will not have tickets available at the door, so get yours soon!

Please be sure to check Dojo and backpacks daily for updates.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Jennifer Quirk

The Bookmobile will be on campus the 3rd Wednesday of the month each month this school year. Check Dojo for the exact dates!

Students who bring their library card will be brought out to the Bookmobile to check out some books, some seeds to plant, a DVD, and more!

Students must bring their own library, card- they can't use a parent's or a sibling's card!

***Please note that PTO Fundraiser payment must be received by the Friday before, or the order is not considered complete and will not be put on the marquee!***

Their name will be on the marquee for a week!

We now have a Kindness eWall at our school up and running! It plays in the cafeteria during student lunches.

If you would like to submit a positive, uplifting message for your child or a shout-out to child's teacher, just click on the link attached, scroll down to "Submit a Message in the Box Below", type your message,
& click submit. Mrs. Quintero will get your message, and approve it.

It will then be on a rotating display on the tv monitors in the cafeteria for all the children, teachers, and staff to see! Positive content of any kind can also be submitted (shout-outs, pictures, quotes, memes, animated gifs).

FESD's Food Services Department has been working to create some examples of shareable snacks that follow the new law, as we know that celebrating a child's birthday at school is a special part of the Elementary School experience. We do appreciate everyone's cooperation so far- it's not our school's rule, but rather a state law, and our front office is simply working to enforce this legislation.

**Any treats that do not meet this law will not be shared with students, and will be retured with the child who brought it.**

Check out the new flyer below, as well as a video that provide specific examples!

Make after school pickup faster with a dashboard card!

We have water refill stations all around campus, but unfortunately don't have water bottles to give to students. Pleasen send your child to school with a water bottle every day!

If your child will need to take medication at school, please bring it (in the prescription bottle/box) to the Health Office. Children may not bring medication to school themselves. This includes even cough drops. When in doubt, DO NOT send medicine to school with your child!

Also, if your child has a Chronic Illness, and may miss school often due to an illness or condition, ask the office or Mrs Quintero about a Chronic Health Form.
