National Library Week
We hope you will join us in celebrating in the media center this week. You can help by completing this student survey: National Library Week Student Survey.
Students who respond can stop by the media center to pick up a sweet treat.
Because reading is so sweet, we have other activities in the media center that you can complete for an additional treat. (while supplies last)
While you're in the media center, be sure to let Mrs. Slaton and Mrs. Noble know how much you appreciate them.

Penny Wars
Check under couch cushions and clean out the car cause this week we’re having a penny war!
Builder's Club, Sources of Strength, and Student Council are teaming up to help end Child Abuse Prevention Month with a penny war to benefit Prevent Child Abuse Scott County.
Each team (as well as the office and related arts/band/choir) will have a bucket in the main hall before school this week. You can put money in ANY team bucket. All pennies will add value to the bucket; any silver coins or paper money will subtract money from the bucket total.
We will announce the leaders at the halfway point so you can be strategic about where you place your money.
The top three teams will win the opportunity to pie a teacher in the face at an all-school assembly sometime in May.

Student Handbook Update
The Scottsburg MS student handbook contains some significant updates for the 2022-2023 school year. The most significant changes took place in the discipline section.
Here are the highlights of three changes that will impact the largest number of students:
Cell phones are still not allowed to be used during the school day here at SMS. Phones are expected to be turned off and stored in lockers. Students who are carrying a cell phone or using a cell phone during the school day are in violation. The consequences for each situation are outlined in the handbook.
Second is illegal substances. This year students who have illegal substances and/or paraphernalia (most common examples are vapes, cigarettes, or alcohol) will be recommended for expulsion on the first offense.
In an attempt to be more aligned with the high school discipline policy, we will be following a progressive discipline approach. This means that when a student commits the same offense multiple times, the discipline will get progressively more serious. Each example is outlined in the doc that is provided by clicking on the picture above or via the link below.

We encourage you to read the handbook with your child(ren) and to contact us with any questions you may have.
We are looking forward to working with our students and their parents throughout the upcoming school year.
