Keeping Our Cubs Safe
Weekly Safety Info for our Webb Family: Safety Drills
Safety drills have already begun and are conducted throughout the school year by each of the campuses. All staff members, including substitutes, are trained on the drills. Each campus reviews all safety procedures and drills with their staff members before the start of the school year. In addition, they get first-hand experience by conducting and participating in their campus safety drills throughout the school year.
Safety Drills Defined
For everyone involved (including our Cubs!), preparation and understanding of the differences between all our drills at MISD are crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone in the school community during emergencies: Lockdown, Secure (formerly Lockout), Evacuation, Shelter-in-Place, and Hold.
1. Lockdown (1x each semester)
Purpose: Implemented when there is an immediate threat inside the school, such as an intruder or active shooter.
Action: Everyone is directed to lock doors, turn off lights, and remain silent and out of sight until the situation is resolved.
2. Secure Drills (1x each semester)
Purpose: Implemented in the event of an incident near the school, such as a threat or hazard outside of the school building (violence/criminal activity in the immediate neighborhood, or a dangerous animal on the playground).
Action: Requires school personnel to bring students inside and lock all exterior doors. Nobody comes in or out of the school, but business continues as usual inside. Secure uses the security of the physical facility to act as protection.
3. Evacuation (1x each month with 10+ school days, as required by state law)
Purpose: Implemented in the event of fires, bomb threats, or other incidents that make staying inside the building unsafe.
Action: Students and staff follow predetermined routes to orderly exit all building occupants to designated safety zones or assembly points outside the school.
4. Shelter-in-Place for an Existing Hazard
Purpose: Implemented when there is a hazard or threat outside the school, such as hazardous materials (hazmat) or severe weather.
Action: Directs individuals to designated safe areas within the school building to protect students and staff from external hazards.
5. Hold
Purpose: Typically performed when there is a medical event to allow assessment and privacy of the patient by medical personnel (not practiced on a set schedule).
Action: School personnel keep students inside a classroom and/or, if they are outdoors, keep students outside until an all-clear is announced.
Now that you know the “what and why” of MISD safety drills, please help your CUBS understand how important these are. Help us in explaining the need to be calm and quiet and listen to their teachers/staff during practice so if an actual emergency takes place, all our CUBS will stay safe!
STAY SAFE!

Dear Webb Families,
Below are the official McKinney ISD Health Services guidelines regarding outdoor activities during extreme temperatures.
MCKINNEY ISD HOT / COLD WEATHER GUIDELINES (Non UIL)
Heat Guidelines for NON UIL Activities
MISD will utilize Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) as the recommended forecast measurement to monitor environmental conditions (heat) during outdoor physical activities. WBGT estimates the effect of temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation using a combination of temperatures from three thermometers.
MISD will use the DTN Weather Sentry App WBGT reading to determine the level of activity in which students can participate in outdoor activities.
Regional Classification
According to the WBGT Classification map:
McKinney ISD is in the area zoned as "Class 3"

Complete Your McKinney ISD Volunteer Background Check - NO Grace Period
Interested in volunteering in McKinney ISD for the 2026-2027 school year? Volunteer applications are being accepted for the upcoming school year. McKinney ISD requires all volunteers complete the required volunteer process each school year. Please note, MISD will not have a grace period this year for volunteers to complete their annual background check. This means you must apply and wait for your approved background check before you can volunteer on campus for the 26-27 school year.
All volunteers with McKinney ISD agree to a background check each school year prior to beginning volunteer duties. McKinney ISD is dedicated to making sure that all students have the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and secure environment.
The volunteer application process is just one effort used by the school administration to help make our schools safe.
VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS MAY TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS TO BE PROCESSED.
To apply, click the link below and select the School or schools of your choice. An email account is required for notification purposes. Once your volunteer application is processed and the criminal background check is complete, you will receive an e-mail notification regarding your application from the MISD Human Resources department.
