July 22, Ranch News Round-Up and Important Information
Week of November 2nd thru November 7th
Message from the Principal
Good evening Mustangs,
I hope everyone enjoyed a fun, safe, and memorable Halloween weekend! As we begin a new week at The Ranch, I want to take a moment to celebrate some of the wonderful things happening on our campus and share an important reminder as we continue working toward a strong finish to the semester.
First, congratulations to our Social Science Department, the winners of this year's Annual Staff Halloween Costume Contest! In an impressive showing, they dethroned the reigning champions, our Math Department, to claim this year's title! A special thank you to all of our teachers and staff who participated in the festivities and went above and beyond to make Halloween such a fun and memorable experience for our students. These are the moments that make Otay Ranch such a special place. The creativity, enthusiasm, and school spirit displayed by our staff are great examples of the sense of Belonging and Unity that we strive to create every day at The Ranch.
Second Progress Report – Time to Reflect and Set Goals
Parents and guardians, this past Friday, students received their second progress report card of the semester. If your student did not bring home a hard copy, I encourage you to review their current grades through Infinite Campus.
With only a few weeks remaining before semester grades are finalized in December, this progress report provides an important opportunity for students and families to evaluate academic progress in each class. I encourage you to sit down with your student, celebrate their successes, identify areas where improvement may be needed, and establish meaningful, achievable goals for the remainder of the semester.
Whether the goal is to maintain strong grades, improve performance in a particular class, complete missing assignments, or seek additional academic support, now is the time to take action! Our teachers, counselors, and support staff are here to help students succeed. I encourage students to take advantage of their Extended Learning Period (ELP), tutoring opportunities, and the many resources available on campus.
Remember, our core value of Learning reminds us that academic success is not simply about the grade we earn, but about the effort, growth, perseverance, and commitment we demonstrate along the way. Let's work together to ensure every Mustang finishes the semester strong!
Congratulations to Our Fall Sports Teams!
Finally, I want to congratulate all of our Fall Sports teams that earned a spot in the CIF Playoffs! Making the postseason is a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and commitment demonstrated by our student-athletes and coaches throughout the season.
To those teams whose seasons have come to an end, thank you for representing Otay Ranch High School with pride and for giving us so many exciting moments this fall. To those teams still competing and continuing their pursuit of a CIF Championship, we are behind you every step of the way! Keep working hard, playing together, and representing The Ranch with Mustang Pride!
As we begin another week, I encourage all of our Mustangs to stay focused, remain positive, and continue demonstrating our BLUE core values of Belonging, Learning, Unity, and Empathy. Every day brings another opportunity to improve, support one another, and make a positive difference in our school community.
Go Mustangs!
Respectfully,
Julio Alcala

Student/Parent/Guardian Handbook Updates
Please review the student handbook as it contains recently adopted SUHSD Board Policy regarding cell phone use on campus. Additionally, there is information throughout the handbook to assist with your child's success at Otay Ranch High School. (Student/Parent/Guardian Handbook)
Message to Students and Parents/Guardians: New District Cell Phone Policy
As we continue our academic journey together, we want to remind everyone of our cell phone use policy at Otay Ranch High School, which mirrors recently adopted Sweetwater Union High School District Policy, BP 5131.8(a). To maintain a focused learning environment, cell phones should be turned off and stored away during class time, unless specifically permitted by your classroom teacher. This policy helps minimize distractions and supports our commitment to LEARNING and academic excellence.
This policy is an essential part of upholding our core values of BLUE: Belonging, Learning, Unity, and Empathy. By following the cell phone policy, students demonstrate a commitment to their LEARNING and respect for the educational environment.
Students are allowed to use their phones during passing periods and lunch, but during instructional time, phones should not be visible or in use.
Remember, staying focused in class not only benefits your own learning but also supports the unity and belonging of our entire school community. Let's work together to create a space where everyone can thrive academically and feel valued.
Thank you for your cooperation and dedication to making Otay Ranch High School a place where learning comes first.
