A Message From Your (Student) Principal

Dear EWS Families,

A few weeks ago we hosted our annual Pizza Bingo Night, where people who attended were allowed to buy raffle tickets to either win gift baskets or a special in-school fun activity. One of those fun activities was being the principal for the day. I won the raffle and was principal on April 28, 2026. Of course I needed an assistant principal so I chose my brother, Jett. I would like to say a little about our week.

First, a little reminder to thank our AMAZING teachers because all of next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! On Friday it was “We are Marshfield” day, when seniors do community service all around our town, including schools! So several people from the community who are graduating High School came to Eames Way School. They will do helpful things like planting new soil in the garden, painting, helping with art projects, and assisting in the classrooms.

Along with these other occasions we will also be hosting an outdoor classroom clean-up alongside our wonderful PTO team. Look out for a flyer from Ms. Bishop next week with more details! We are so excited about cleaning up the outdoor classroom because as the weather becomes warmer we will possibly use the outdoor classroom more often.

More news is that an environmental awareness club called P.O.P (Pass On Pollution) is becoming a big idea. The club consists of a lot of members. Here are some of them: 3rd- Camilla Hughes (myself) 3rd- Lilly McDonough, 3rd- Natalie Johnson, 3rd- Berkeley Baird, 3rd- Sebastian Goodwin, And so many more amazing members! P.O.P’s main mission is to raise awareness about how people are making millions of animal species become extinct by polluting. We will set up stands outside of school selling items and telling people about pollution and its horrible impact on our world. One quarter of the profits earned from the stands will go to both supplies for the hand-made items we sell and also supplies for picking up trash. Such as, trash bags, gloves etc. The remaining three quarters of the profits will go to animal hospitals or any place that has wildlife injured by pollution and/or littering.

I recently had a meeting with our awesome superintendent Dr. Sullivan, we discussed P.O.P and other ideas. The P.O.P team hopes to include a club to our school enrichments for next year. We are hoping if we do start a club we will need a teacher advisor, if you are hoping to volunteer contact Ms. Bishop.

Warmly,

Miss Millie Hughes

Student Principal

Attention Grade 5 Parents:

Postural screening will be taking place on May 18th during PE class by the nurse. The Department of Public Health guidelines mandate that students in Grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are screened annually for scoliosis. If your child is already followed for scoliosis, please let the nurse know. More detailed information will be sent out to 5th grade parents. If you would like your child to opt out of this screening, please send in a note or email to Alison White at awhite@mpsd.org.

Guidelines for return to school after an illness:

  • Fever over 100 degrees (child must be fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of Tylenol or Motrin, to return to school).

  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea (if your child has had any vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours, they should not return to school).

  • Diagnosis of communicable disease such as strep throat or conjunctivitis (if diagnosed with a communicable disease and prescribed antibiotics, your child must not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours. A doctor's note should be brought to school via backpack, emailed to awhite@mpsd.org, or faxed to 339-244-2475.

Reminders as the weather changes:

  • Hydration: Please be sure your child brings a water bottle to school each day-preferably one that is easily refillable at our refill stations.

  • Snacks: Please remember to send in a healthy snack for your child everyday.

  • Clothing: Have children dress in layers-the building can become quite warm, and children can overheat very easily.

  • Sun safety: Sunscreen must be applied at home before coming to school.

  • Tick safety: There has been an increase in the prevalence of ticks. Parents should frequently check their children for ticks, especially around the ankles, legs, and head region after coming inside from any outdoor activities.

Spring Cleaning:

As you spring clean, don’t forget that any donations of lightly used clothing would be greatly appreciated by the School Nurse. Any shirts, sweatshirts, and pants(preferably leggings or sweatpants) in sizes 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 would be a welcome addition to the nurses’ collection.

My School Bucks is an online account for families to easily manage and pay for school meals, a la carte items (such as ice cream), etc. These accounts stay with students throughout grades K-12 and funds can be replenished when balances get low. Here's the information from the MPSD Nutrition webpage on how to set up your account - My School Bucks.

Federal Food Benefit Program - SUN Bucks Federal Food Benefit Program - SUN Bucks

The online application SUN Bucks (formerly Summer EBT) is now open. This federal food benefit program provides a $120 lump-sum summer benefit per school-aged child for income-eligible families. SUN Bucks income eligibility standards are the same as the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) - all enrolled students identified as meeting the income eligibility standards for free or reduced-price lunch during school year 2025-26, either through an NSLP household application or direct certification, are automatically eligible for SUN Bucks. Students identified as homeless, migrant, runaway, or participating in Head Start are also automatically eligible. The program is administered by the state Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) in partnership with DESE with assistance from schools. Find details and learn how to apply on the SUN Bucks website. Click here for SUN bucks information and application.

Did you know the emotional connection between a parent and child is crucial for regulating emotions, learning and behavior? During this workshop we will explore effective tools based on the neuroscience of emotional connection that you can begin using with your children to improve the emotional wellness of your entire family. Children who are parented through connection become emotionally intelligent individuals who fare well in emotional well-being, physical health, social competence, and academic performance.

Please visit our website: https://mpsdsepac.weebly.com/ for additional resources and information.

We look forward to seeing you!

Volunteering at EWS Volunteering at EWS

In order to volunteer at EWS for school events or in the classroom, parents/guardians need to have an approved CORI on file.

CORI applications need to be redone every few years and we are currently in a three-year cycle covering 2023-2026. All volunteers need to complete a CORI, even if you were approved prior to 2023. Please visit the Front Office to complete a CORI application and provide a copy of your license - it will only take a minutes. Applications are then reviewed by MPSD Central Office, which can take up to a week to process. If you have any questions, please contact Val Quigley (781-834-5090 or vquigley@mpsd.org).

However, to clarify, if you have an approved CORI from last year, it is still valid for this school year!
