Happy Spring Killam Families! 🌷🌸 Happy Spring Killam Families! 🌷🌸

A quick reminder that the Scholastic Book Fair is happening this week! 📚 You can find your child’s shopping time and volunteer opportunities below. As a reminder, all volunteers must have a completed CORI form on file.

Report cards were published by Ms. Maglio on Friday.

  • For technical questions, please reach out to her at jaculen.maglio@reading.k12.ma.us
  • For questions about your child’s progress, please contact your child’s classroom teacher

We also want to extend a big thank you to two Killam parents, Matt McLeod and Erin Burchill, for representing our school on the Superintendent Screening Committee—we appreciate your time and dedication to our community! If you’re interested in learning more about the superintendent finalists, you’re welcome to attend one or more of the upcoming community sessions (details below).

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead—let’s make it a great one! 💛🐨

Superintendent Search 🔎 Superintendent Search 🔎

As you may know, Dr. Milaschewski will be leaving his role as Superintendent of the Reading Public Schools at the end of the school year, and the district is currently conducting a search for the next Superintendent. At tonight’s School Committee meeting, four finalists were announced, and their resumes can be found here.

As we move into the final phase, we are offering opportunities for the community to engage with the finalists over the coming weeks. We invite you to participate in stakeholder sessions, which will provide an opportunity to connect directly with the candidates and share your perspectives on the future leadership of the district.

Sessions will be held on the following dates from 5:15–6:00 PM and will be offered in a hybrid format, either in the Central Office Conference Room or remotely via Zoom:

  • March 23: Andrew Bott (Zoom Link; 835 8001 3254)

  • March 24: Wendy Crocker-Roberge (Zoom Link; 885 3898 2916)

  • March 25: Henry Turner (Zoom Link; 897 8205 3631)

  • April 1: Heather Galante (Zoom Link; 834 6631 1433)

We also invite you to attend the public School Committee interviews, which will take place on the following dates. These sessions will be held in a hybrid format, either in person in the RMHS Library or via Zoom.

  • Monday, March 30 (Zoom Link; 826 8675 0029)

    • Andrew Bott: 6:00–7:15 PM

    • Heather Galante: 7:30–8:45 PM

  • Tuesday, March 31 (Zoom Link; 831 8333 7682)

    • Henry Turner: 6:00–7:15 PM

    • Wendy Crocker-Roberge: 7:30–8:45 PM

Thank you in advance for your participation, we appreciate your voice in this important process!

Best,

Shawn Brandt, School Committee Chair

Michelle Roach, HR Director

Rehearsals

Please continue checking the virtual calendar for updates.

  • Some optional after-school rehearsals are available for ensemble members. These are a great opportunity for students to better understand their role in the full show.

  • Thursday, March 26: Mandatory dress rehearsal at RMHS for all cast and crew. This is our only rehearsal on the RMHS stage before the evening performance.

Attendance at both dress rehearsals is very important for students’ confidence and comfort on stage.

Performance Schedule at RMHS

Friday, March 27

  • 5:00 PM: Students arrive at RMHS (PAC entrance) and go to the Drama Suite to get into costume

  • 6:30 PM: Show begins

  • ~8:00 PM: Show ends (includes a 10-minute intermission)

Saturday, March 28

  • 12:00 PM: Students arrive at RMHS (PAC entrance) and go to the Drama Suite to get into costume

  • 1:30 PM: Show begins

  • ~3:00 PM: Show ends

After Saturday’s show, we will have a cast and crew pizza party on “Main Street” (ending by 4:00 PM). At the same time, we will begin “strike” in the PAC (breaking down set pieces and organizing costumes/props to bring back to Killam). Volunteers are appreciated (BYO Tools)!

Costumes

Base Layer:
It is recommended that students wear a black/white/neutral tank top/undershirt and bike shorts under their costume if possible to help with quick costume changes.

Bring to School:

  • Students must bring their black costume items (see Costume Call Document).

  • Please label all clothing with your student’s name.

Shoes:
Due to limited storage space and because many students are using their own everyday footwear, please have students wear their show shoes to school or bring them the day of the performance.

Belongings:
Students are encouraged to bring a bin or small laundry basket to keep their costume pieces organized (especially for RMHS shows).

Students will be responsible for independently hanging and caring for their costumes, so practice and reminders about this at home are helpful!

Hair:
Any style that keeps hair out of the face is great. Many costumes include hats, so avoid high buns or ponytails.

Makeup:
Aside from those who have already been makeup tested, makeup is optional. If you/your student would like to wear makeup for the show, please apply at home. We will not be applying or sharing makeup products backstage.

Thank you for helping make this a smooth and exciting show week! 🎭
