This month, we are highlighting our Life Habits lessons. At the elementary level, we dedicate 10–15 minutes each day to Life Habits, our social, emotional, and behavioral learning time. These moments open the door for ongoing conversations that continue long after the lesson ends. In case you missed the parent session hosted in September, here is a direct link to watch a quick 3-minute overview of Life Habits.

Season of Gratitude Season of Gratitude

The holiday season is a natural time to pause and reflect on gratitude. As we near the end of the semester, we invite parents and students to show appreciation for their teachers with handwritten notes of thanks and encouragement. Our internal surveys suggest that positive messages like these can be especially meaningful and inspiring, often even more than other thoughtful gestures.

Parent Focus Group - Join the Conversation Parent Focus Group - Join the Conversation

Thank you to the many parents who participated in our Parent Engagement Survey! Your feedback helps shape our programs and future opportunities for parent involvement.

Almost 200 of you shared that you’re interested in participating in a Parent Focus Group. To make the group accessible to everyone, we’ve created a ParentSquare Group for communication. If you did not express your interest via the survey, you can still sign up by clicking here to join! We look forward to starting the conversation when we return from Christmas break.

Career Readiness Workshop Career Readiness Workshop

Last month, a Career Readiness Workshop featuring Daniel Smiley, known as the “Interview Guru” was hosted for high school students and families. Mr. Smiley shared powerful insights on crafting resumes and approaching interviews with purpose. Families had the opportunity to create and practice their own “elevator pitches”, receiving direct feedback from Mr. Smiley to refine their personal introductions. The event fostered meaningful conversations between parents and learners about future career goals and readiness.

One parent shared, “Thank you for this amazing opportunity to attend this. Even though I’ve been with my company for 24 years, I learned a lot from this. I’m hoping to have more conversations with my learner about what was said and how he can use that for his future career opportunities.”

The evening was a wonderful example of how collaboration between school, families, and community partners helps prepare our learners for life beyond the classroom.

Turn Reading into a Holiday Tradition Turn Reading into a Holiday Tradition

At Life School, we know families play a key role in helping children grow as readers. This month, we are focusing on literacy by encouraging simple, meaningful ways to support reading at home. Over the Christmas break, here are some ways you can promote reading with the whole family!

  • Share your favorite holiday childhood book with your child.

  • Set a short daily family reading time, followed by a fun holiday activity, such as baking. Reading recipes counts too. *Bonus points for using math skills!

  • Visit your local library for holiday events or to borrow books for the break.

  • Create a cozy reading space or book basket for those chilly mornings.

  • Read a holiday book together, then watch the movie version while sipping hot cocoa as a family.
