Remembering 9/11-25 years later
Dear CMS Families and Students,
Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001. None of our students were born yet, but many of us remember exactly where we were that morning and the days after. I was in Room 203 at Martin Middle School in Taunton, teaching social studies to a bunch of 8th graders and thinking that this couldn't be real. Reflecting on this day in history, it was a day of great loss for our country, but it also showed to the rest of the world that our country came together to support and care for one another.
This morning during announcements, we spoke with our students and staff about the people who made great sacrifices that day, including the firefighters, police officers, and everyday citizens who ran toward danger to help others. We also talked about how our country came together in the days that followed. Strangers helping strangers, neighbors checking on each other, and people everywhere found ways to support and look after one another.
We reminded our students that caring for each other shouldn't happen only on one day a year. It is something we can choose to do and should do every day. We can say thank you to the people who help us. We can be kind, even when it isn't easy. That is the kind of community we want Coelho to be.

Welcome Back Night 9/17 from 6-8 PM
Dear CMS Families,
Please join us for Welcome Back Night at Coelho Middle School on Thursday, September 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
In the coming days, your child will bring home a paper copy of their class schedule. Please bring it with you that evening, as you will follow your child's Thursday schedule and visit each of their classes.
During the evening, you will have the opportunity to:
- Meet your child's teachers
- Learn about the classes your child is taking, including an overview of each course and how grading will work this year
- Find out the best ways to stay in communication with Coelho and with your child's teachers
Welcome Back Night is a family event, and we encourage students to come along! Students, this is your chance to show your families around the building and introduce them to your teachers.
Reminders for Families
- Bikes and e-bikes: we have seen a lot of students riding to school this fall, including many on e-bikes. Every student riding a bike or e-bike should be wearing a helmet, and should bring a lock to keep their bike secure during the school day. Please take a minute to go over this with your child.
- After-school activities, sports, and late buses are expected to begin in late September or early October. More information is to come as schedules are finalized.
- School hours: classes begin at 7:50 a.m. and dismissal is at 2:20 p.m. Early release dismissal is 11:30 a.m.
- Arriving on time matters. Students who walk in after 7:50 miss announcements and the start of first period
