We are requesting proposals for presenters to participate in our annual symposium, March 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. This year’s theme is Choose Children, and our keynote speaker is Charles Best of Donor’s Choose.

We are focused on innovative ideas and best practices for our target audience, the early childhood leadership community. Presenters will be allotted 1 hour per session with assigned rooms and times. You may send up to three session proposals using a separate form for each one. Our organization does not have the capacity for speaker fees or travel expenses for this event. However, we are very grateful for your contribution to the early learning leadership community so registration for the conference is complimentary for one presenter per workshop session.

Here are a few details about the event:

Presentations will be scheduled for sessions in the morning and afternoon of Monday, March 4th, 2024.

Topics should be presented with research-based information and/or highlight developmentally appropriate practices. All presentations should be interactive and of interest for leaders and administrators (principals, coordinators, managers, instructional coaches, central office staff, etc.).

Presenters will not be allowed to sell material during their presentation. Vendor space is available on a first-come, first-served basis, though. Please contact us at taaspyc1@gmail.com for more information on vendor space, using “Vendor Inquiry” as the subject line.

The Session Proposal form will be submitted electronically as a Google form and must be received by 6:00 pm on December 22, 2023.

Please email us at taaspyc1+proposal@gmail.com if you have questions regarding this process. Please use “Proposal Inquiry” as the subject line.

If you are chosen to present at the conference, you can expect to receive a presentation confirmation by January 15, 2024.

Thank you for considering our request. We look forward to hearing from you! If you know a presenter who needs this invitation, please feel free to forward this email to them!

Most sincerely,

RFP Committee, TAASPYC

Lunch and Learn

SAVE the DATE and JOIN us!!

On December 6th we will be hosting our 2nd virtual "Lunch and Learn" from 12-1 CST to network with each other. First, we will debrief our first session to "check-in" and see how the ideas we shared around bathroom policy in Pre-K, how to better utilize paras, and behavior strategies, helped us navigate these issues in our regions.

Next, we will talk about some new topics chosen by your votes. This will be another informal gathering to collaborate on all of the great things you are doing to navigate these topics in your districts. The goal is to share ideas, engage, and come away with action steps to utilize in our programs for success! An organization is stronger with different perspectives, knowledge, skills, talents, and experiences. BRING YOURS TO THE TEAM!

Please fill out this quick form to help guide the topics we will address in our second webinar. https://forms.gle/FRPZ75LUgXTipDxSA

Celebrate the Good

Prosper ISD Opens First Early Childhood School

Brenda Calhoun Early Childhood School is not just another school in Prosper ISD. It is the first Early Childhood school in the district, and a place where creativity, curiosity and play take center stage in the learning process. The mission statement, “Grow, Discover, Explore,” lays the foundation for a lifetime of learning. Calhoun ECS has the honor of creating the starting point for the district’s youngest learners, being their first step in the grand journey of education. What sets this campus apart is the unwavering commitment to learning through play. Children are naturally curious, and their minds are eager to soak up knowledge through their senses and experiences. The faculty and staff is dedicated to cultivating meaningful relationships through purposeful play, where students have the opportunity to explore their imaginations and communicate with each other. Play is not a break from learning; it is the very essence of it. Play serves as the medium through which children experiment, solve problems and develop critical thinking skills. In each classroom, young minds are actively engaged in activities that not only bring them happiness but also support cognitive, social and emotional development. Brenda Calhoun Early Childhood School is a place where learning is an adventure and the staff could not be prouder of the mission they have embarked on.

From Circle Time to Small Group Instruction. Connecting Learning in Early Childhood

There is so much to learn and practice in early childhood classrooms. I is challenging to address all the learning objectives during circle time without extending the recommended time for whole-group instruction. Using the whole group environment to introduce the learning objectives and model activities allows teachers to plan for targeted, connected, and scaffolded small-group instruction.

In this session, we will review recommended and developmentally appropriate practices to introduce, and review content in circle time and how to transfer those learning objectives into meaningful small group lessons.

So Many Words, So Little Time: Teaching Vocabulary Efficiently

3/26/24

The simple truth is that when it comes to learning vocabulary, nothing beats exposure and use—in every possible learning modality. ” (Pearson)

Having a rich vocabulary helps with language development, reading comprehension, and written expression. Early childhood students and second language students need some extra help from teachers to learn crucial vocabulary needed to be successful with both social and academic language. In this session, educators will learn routines for teaching vocabulary words in effective ways for easy retrieval and correct use for oral expression in K-2 classrooms.

School Specialty Professional Development to Reinvigorate Teaching and Learning

School Specialty offers a variety of Professional Development opportunities to help you implement new programs, engage students, and reinvigorate teaching and learning in the classrooms.

Using Coaching as a Professional Development Strategy to Impact Continuous Quality Improvement in Early Childhood

In this recorded session we will differentiate professional development facilitation strategies typically used to impact the learning and effectiveness of staff, educators, and providers. These strategies include teaching/training, consulting/TA, mentoring, and coaching. We will examine how coaching specifically leverages other professional development strategies to ensure the successful implementation of quality practices.

Additionally, we will define and differentiate transactional coaching and transformational coaching. Transformational coaching moves the focus of implementation of professional practices beyond merely creating goals and action plans, to fostering deeper reflection of how attitudes, motivation, and habits impact professional practices and meaningful outcomes that ‘stick’ over time. The purpose of coaching is to help people examine what they are doing in light of their intentions and to foster practices that will help them ‘get better at getting better’ to create continuous quality improvements that will positively impact children and families.

Ethics in Action

This recorded training was provided to ECE teachers and our pilot site staff members. Key topics include reflections of a teacher's impact, the NAEYC Ethical Code of Conduct, ethical responsibilities, core values, and applying ethics. Through the training, participants practice applying ethics in child, family, and co-worker scenarios with guided coaching and reflection.

An Introduction to the Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework

"An Introduction to the Protective Factors" is a Resource for Action that guides those who work with children and families. The curriculum builds an understanding of the importance and power of partnering with parents, caregivers, and professionals that serve children and families to promote positive outcomes for them and their children. Taught by Early Learning Ventures' child care partnership specialists.
