My name is Amy Settles and I am excited to be teaching fourth grade this year. I grew up in Michigan and have lived in Alaska since 2014. Teaching has allowed me to experience different ways of life across the state in Togiak, Sand Point, and Denali. I live with my husband, our three year old son, Jack, two cats, a dog, and a ball python named Agnes!

Here is a short little “about me”

Leah Sizemore (a haiku)

My favorite things:

Outside, art, coffee, pie, dogs,

All the “bunny trails”

My husband and I moved from a very small town in Meeker, CO where I have been a teacher for 15 years. I love working with students and building relationships with them. I am so lucky to be here at West Homer Elementary and look forward to a wonderful year in the 5th grade.

I moved from Oklahoma to Alaska in 1999 to teach in the bush. I am most recently coming back to Homer, after a 20+ year hiatus, from Girdwood / Anchorage where I taught various grades, but most recently 4th. I am so excited to get back into teaching and learning with 6th graders!

I was born and raised in America’s high five (Michigan). This will be my 11th year living & teaching in Alaska. The last ten years I spent with SWRSD in a village teaching a variety of grades: PreK, Kindergarten, 2nd/3rd grade, and 5th/6th grade. I am very excited to have the honor of working and learning alongside the staff and students at West Homer Elementary.

• If interested in busing to or from school, contact Apple Bus Company-First Student: 907-235-0124.
• After you set up busing with them, let us know so we can include that information for a bus note.

Bus note information we need:

• What days your child will ride the bus home
• What bus (number) they will ride
• Where the bus stop is located
• The name and contact number for the person meeting the bus

In preparation for the 2023-2024 school year we've attached an OOA form that is required to be completed and approved by admninstrators each school year for our out-of-area students. Once you have completed the form you can either email it to your appropriate in-area school or you can bring the form to us for processing.
