Important Changes to Arrival and Dismissal Procedures Important Changes to Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

As many of you know, changes in transportation boundaries mean Sunrise will now have approximately 150 students designated as walkers. (View the boundary map here.) Families impacted by this change were notified at the end of last school year. With more walkers, we also anticipate an increase in families driving their students to and from school.

To ensure student safety and prevent traffic congestion on Lever Street and Main Street, we are implementing significant changes to our arrival and dismissal procedures. Your cooperation is vital for a smooth and safe process for everyone.

We are asking all families to view this video to learn about the new process and be prepared for the first day of school.

Here’s a breakdown of the new procedures:

Bus Procedures

  • Buses will load and unload in front of the school.
  • Buses will use the main driveway entrance to the parking lot for both entry and exit.

Parent Drop-off and Pick-up

  • Parent drop-off and pick-up will now take place in the back of the school.
  • Vehicles will enter the school property using the north entrance to access the back of the school.
  • A designated drop-off/pick-up zone will be clearly marked for student safety.
  • Vehicles will exit using the same north entrance.

Walkers

  • Walkers will exit the property at the north drive entrance.
  • The City of Blaine has created a new crosswalk in this area, which will be staffed with adult crossing guards to ensure our walkers can safely cross.
  • Bicycle/scooter riders will need to walk their bikes/scooters when on school grounds.
  • We do have a number of families who also choose to walk from the neighborhood south of Main Street. Please be mindful of pedestrians in this area as well.

We understand that changes can take some getting used to, but these adjustments are crucial for the safety of our students and the efficiency of our traffic flow. Please watch this video for a visual guide to the new procedures.

If you have any questions after watching the video, please don't hesitate to contact the school office.
