Dear Parents/Guardians:

We celebrated kindness, friendship, and the school community earlier this week during Valentine’s Day. I hope you had the opportunity to create special memories with those who matter most to you. Next week, our schools will extend the celebration with our Random Acts of Kindness spirit week. Each day, our schools will have students and staff participate in various weekly activities focusing on kindness. Your building-based newsletters will have more details on the daily events. This week, we are pleased to showcase Windham Middle School. Below are a few district-level highlights, and then the spotlight will turn to our middle school students and staff.

Kids Vote: We are excited to announce our Annual Kids Vote for grades K-12! Students can vote alongside their parents/guardians during town voting on Tuesday, March 12th. All voting will occur at Windham High School from 7 am-8 pm. Upon arrival, students will enter the gym and approach the Kid’s Vote table. Volunteers will check them in on the registration list and provide them with a ballot for their school. Students will select one choice on their school-based ballot and then drop their vote in the official ballot box. Check your school newsletters to learn what each school will be voting on.

Special Education Parent Night: The Special Education department hosted a parent information session on Monday. Special Education Directors presented information on the difference between 504 plans and Individual Education Plans (IEP). If you were unable to attend, the presentation is now available on our website.

National School Resource Officer Day: Yesterday was School Resource Officers Day. We want to thank Officer Antista and Officer Nieves for all they do for our school community. Their unwavering dedication and invaluable contributions to our school community do not go unnoticed, and we are fortunate to have them as integral team members.

Windham Middle School Achievements:

  • The Scholastic Art Awards have announced the Regional Award recipients. The art and writing competition is the most prestigious competition in North America. One Middle School student received a Gold Key, the highest award, and two students received Honorable Mentions.

  • In April, WMS had nine students selected for the NHBDA (New Hampshire Band Directors Association) honors festival.

  • Our M2M students (mentoring) have made several trips to Golden Brook to visit with the students there.

  • The Windham Middle School Lego Robotics team, Aqua Observers, competed in the NH State Tournament. They received outstanding scores for their innovation project and showed great progress in their robot mission scores. The Saucy Blue Box team, composed of some Windham Middle School students, had an amazing day with top scores in their robot mission game.

  • Drama Club is hard at work on Frozen Jr., which they will perform at the beginning of April. Keep an eye out for dates and times.

  • The D1 Boys' Basketball team had a record of 4-8 and lost to Lurgio in the quarterfinals.

  • The D1 Girls' Basketball team had a record of 4-8 and won their first-round game over Merrimack before losing to Lurgio in the quarterfinals.

  • The D5 Boys' Basketball team had a record of 9-3 and won the D5 Boys' Basketball Championship.

  • The D5 Girls' Basketball team had a record of 6-6 and won their quarterfinal game over Woodbury and lost their semifinal game to Mountain View.

  • The wrestling team had a great season and hosted a match on February 7th against Londonderry. Three wrestlers were crowned champions in their weight division, and five will attend the state meet on February 18th.

Way to go, Wildcats! We are down to one more week before our February break. Keep up the great work, Windham. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Always choose kindness,

Dr. Kori Alice Becht
