Tiger Talk

From Growth to Greatness
Driven by Pride. Strengthened by Resilience. Led by Heart.
🐯 From Principal Russ
Good evening Tiger Families,
What an incredible week at West Cypress Hills! I want to start by sharing my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your amazing support during our APEX Fundraiser. Thanks to your generosity, encouragement, and participation, it was a huge success — and so much fun for our students!
As you may have heard, WCHE and Bee Cave Elementary were in a friendly fundraising challenge to see who could raise the most per student. Well... we did it! 🎉 That means Principal Kellner will be dressing up as our very own Tiger mascot in front of her students! I can’t wait to see it — and I know our Tigers will be cheering her on from afar.
It was such a joy seeing so many of our families on campus for the APEX event day. The excitement, laughter, and community spirit made the day one to remember. Thank you for always showing up with such heart for our students and school.
🍎 Attendance Challenge Update
We’re still in a neck-and-neck competition with Principal Keegan Luedecke for the October Attendance Challenge! Please help us keep the momentum going by encouraging your child to be at school every day they’re healthy and able — every minute matters for their growth and learning.
And just between us… I love pie, but let’s be honest — I DO NOT LOOK GOOD IN PIE, Y’ALL! 😂
Right now, WCHE is at 96.35% attendance for October, while SHE is close behind at 95.96%. Let’s finish the month strong and keep those Tigers in class!
💜 Celebrating Our Tiger Teachers
I also want to take a moment to brag on our incredible WCHE staff. Our teachers and team members truly give their all — tackling each day with full hearts, sharp minds, and endless energy. They collaborate, problem-solve, and go above and beyond to ensure every child grows.
I’ve had the privilege this past week to spend time with them in PLCs, during pre- and post-conference discussions, and through classroom visits — my absolute favorite part of the day! Watching our Tiger Teachers engage students through intentional instruction, care, and creativity fills my heart with pride and gratitude.
Their commitment to your children is unwavering, and I am so thankful to lead such an amazing group of educators who embody what it means to lead with heart.
💬 Teacher & Staff Shout-Outs!

Thank you for helping us celebrate the incredible people who make WCHE such a special place to learn and grow.
Thank you again for your continued support, partnership, and pride in our school community. Together, we’re helping every Tiger move from growth to greatness — and we couldn’t do it without you.
With Tiger Pride,
Amy Russ

Golden Attendance = Golden Goose Award!
This month, we are launching an exciting initiative to boost student attendance. And, with this in mind, we have several incentives in place for classrooms and grade levels.
Each week, we will feature a "Golden Goose" for every grade level. The class with the best attendance in each grade will receive the "Golden Goose" for the week. Additionally, attendance updates will be shared in our newsletters.
At the end of the semester, the grade level with the highest overall attendance will enjoy an ultimate recess! Also, students with perfect attendance every 9 weeks will receive a certificate from the office.
We appreciate your partnership in promoting excellent attendance. Let’s make this a great month and a great year!

School Library Advisory Council
In response to Senate Bill 13, our Board of Trustees has established the Lake Travis ISD School Library Advisory Council (SLAC.) The purpose of the SLAC is to formalize a collaborative process between librarians, parents, and community members in the ongoing development of strong library collections that support student achievement and meet state standards. This process helps ensure transparency, parent involvement, and a strong library program that strengthens student achievement while nurturing a lifelong appreciation, habit, and love of reading.
The SLAC works with librarians and district staff to develop a recommended list of library materials for procurement, including donated titles. At least 30 days before the Board’s vote, the proposed procurement list will be made publicly available for parents and community members to review and provide feedback. The Board will review these recommendations, consider any proposed changes, and make the final decision to approve or reject the materials. The SLAC will also recommend procedures for handling challenges to library materials and review challenges according to law before making recommendations to the Board.
Visit the SLAC webpage to access the Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List, Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List Feedback Form, and the Library Materials Challenge Form.
For questions or additional information regarding SLAC reviews or library material challenges, please contact Tasha Barker at watersbarkert@ltisdschools.org, or at 512-533-6036.
Contact Coach Williams or Coach Mayes to share the good news about new shoe-tying talents!
