Hockey in the City!
Hey hockey parents!
Hockey in the City is back in 2023 during Summer in the City weekend. Depending on the number of registrations we have, we may start this year's tournament on the evening of Friday June 16th with the bulk of the games being played on Saturday morning June 17th with the tournament wrapping up by early afternoon so you enjoy the festival with your families. This 3 on 3 ball hockey tournament will take place on the T.G Smith Arena floor once again. You need a minimum of 4 players to enter a team (3 players plus a goalie) with a maximum of 7 players allowed. Every team is guaranteed a minimum of 3 games. Helmets (with cages), sticks, and gloves are required. Extra equipment is optional but not mandatory. Registration is $10 per player, which includes a T-Shirt. This can be paid at registration the day of the tournament. The tournament is for the U7 age group all the way up to U15.
We will have current and future members of the Steinbach Pistons helping run the event and there may even be an appearance from the Turnbull Cup at some point as well!
We'd love to you have you all out to take part in this year's tournament. Please spread the word as we'd like to make this a big tournament in 2023! Register your teams over at www.summerinthecity.ca. If you have any questions, let me know.
See you soon!

Student Pick Up Process
We would ask that parents please park on Willow Street and come into the building to collect their students. This allows for a more seamless handoff to parents and ensures that students are signed out of the building.
Please refrain from calling the office from your car, and rather, come on in! This helps us to ensure we have a safe hand off for the students in our building.
Canteen Use Clarification
As a school our canteen follows the following rules:
1. The canteen is not intended to be a place to purchase a whole lunch, but rather a treat or extra item to add to lunches.
2. Students should only be purchasing for themselves, not for their friends.
3. A couple of dollars is all that kids need for making purchases at the canteen. Our prices are very low! Bringing larger bills to school can lead to lost money and other issues.
4. The students have all been reminded of the intent and purpose of the canteen for their use.
Thanks so much for helping us manage and maintain our canteen program!
Paperwork for Parent Volunteers - Get it done early!
Parents, please be reminded that all HSD volunteers are required to have a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check cleared before you are able to work with our students. A number of other forms need to be completed in the office. If you are hoping to support a learning trip, or coach a team, please come in to the office early to complete this paperwork. It can take up to a month for all of the checks to clear. The procedure for completing Criminal Record Checks and Child Abuse Registry Checks can be found at the bottom of this newsletter.

Volunteer Procedure for 2022-2023
MMS is looking forward to welcoming volunteers back into the school this year. If you hope to support the school this year by volunteering your time, please take note of the following expectations for school based volunteers, that have been established by Hanover School Division.
Volunteers who currently have an approved Child Abuse Check in our database, only need to apply for the Criminal Records Check to complete their permissions. Once the Criminal Records Check has been completed and submitted to the school, the volunteer can proceed to volunteer. Volunteers who have a valid Criminal Record Check on file with HSD will still be required to sign an Annual Declaration that confirms the Criminal Record Check on file remains accurate. Contact the school office to sign the Annual Declaration.
All new volunteers must complete a CRC and a CAC.
The process to complete the Criminal Records Check for school start-up September 2022.
- Parents email the RCMP - carole.robidoux@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
- Parents contact school for letter (print off power school) waving the fee
The Child Abuse Registry Check can be completed in the school office.
