M-STEP
As we gear up for the M-STEP testing over the next two weeks, I’d like to highlight the importance of this assessment and offer some essential strategies to support our students. Ensuring your child has good nutrition, stays hydrated, exercises, and gets plenty of rest will help them perform at their best. Remember, breakfast is available every morning in our cafeteria. Please support your child to arrive on time.
What is M-STEP?
M-STEP stands for the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress, which is administered to all Michigan public school students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Students in these grades are assessed in Mathematics and English Language Arts, while 5th graders also complete assessments in Social Studies and Science. All tests will be conducted at school using Chromebooks.
Test Schedule:
Below is the test schedule for your reference:
- Tuesday, April 15: English Language Arts (Grades 3-5)
- Thursday, April 17: Science (Grade 5)
- Tuesday, April 22: Mathematics (Grades 3-5)
- Thursday, April 24: Social Studies (Grade 5)
How You Can Help:
Here are some strategies to support your child during this important time:
📚 Understand the Importance: The M-STEP plays a crucial role in evaluating our students' academic progress and helps us identify areas where they excel or may need additional support. By discussing the significance of this assessment with your child, you can help alleviate any anxiety they might feel. Remind them that this is a chance to demonstrate everything they have learned.
🍽️ Healthy Routine: A healthy routine can greatly impact your child’s performance. Ensure they get plenty of rest in the days leading up to the test. A good night’s sleep is vital for focus and concentration. Additionally, a nutritious breakfast on test day can provide the energy needed to tackle the challenges ahead.
💪 Positive Attitude: Your encouragement can make a significant difference in how your child approaches the test. Help them cultivate a positive mindset by expressing confidence in their abilities. Remind them that it’s okay to feel nervous, but with preparation and support, they can succeed.
