Mystery Readers Needed

Good Evening Killam Families! Good Evening Killam Families!

I hope you’re enjoying a wonderful weekend. The next two weeks are filled with excitement!

We’re in the heart of our Readathon, and together we’ve read over 160,000 minutes!! Wow! Thank you for supporting your students as readers and for your generous donations. These donations make our school field trips and enrichments happen!

This Friday, students will enjoy a performance of the Killam School Musical during the school day, and we warmly invite all families to attend at RMHS next Friday, March 27th at 6:30 pm, and Saturday, March 28th at 1:30 pm. This is a free admission event, but we welcome donations to continue the musical each year! Donations can be sent to the Killam Main Office or you can venmo the PTO @KillamPTO.

A reminder that standards-based report cards will be published in the portal by Friday’s end of day. You can find more details below.

And don’t forget, our Book Fair is next week! If you’d like to volunteer or become a mystery reader for the Readathon, just scroll down in the newsletter!

Wishing you all a fantastic week, and as always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns!

If all of the volunteer slots are filled but you would still like to attend during your child’s shop time, you are more than welcome to do so. As long as you have a current CORI on file, you may simply sign in at the front office when you arrive and head to the library—no need to contact the classroom teacher or library ahead of time.

A paper copy of this information will also be sent home with students on Monday, and translations will be included for families who have requested them.

Standards Based Report Cards 📝 Standards Based Report Cards 📝

Elementary report cards will be published in the family portal by the end of the day on Friday.

Our standards-based report cards are designed to share student progress toward grade-level learning standards and provide insight into how students are developing their skills throughout the year. Report cards are one data point that help communicate student learning and growth.

As a reminder, elementary students are assessed based on end-of-year grade-level standards, and the winter report card reflects how students are progressing toward those expectations at this point in the school year.

If you have questions after reviewing your child’s report card, please feel free to reach out directly to your child’s teacher. They are always happy to provide additional context and support.

Reading METCO is excited to announce that we will be hosting a roller-skating event for all RPS students and parents/guardians at Roller World in Saugus on Thursday, March 26th, from 5:00pm–7:00pm. Because last year’s event was such a huge success and filled up quickly, we were excited to bring it back again for this year!

This event is open to Reading Public Schools students and their families. While we all come from different communities, we are one METCO family, and this will be a fun opportunity for students to hang out and mingle after school hours while parents from Reading and Boston connect and engage with one another.

Skate rentals, pizza, and drinks will be provided. If you are a parent who is unable to attend, please feel free to send your child with money to purchase any additional items they may want. Please keep in mind that we are not responsible for your child’s money if they choose to bring it.

You must register for this event, as it is first come, first served. Last year, spots filled up fast! Please use the link below to register by Friday, March 20th.
