Time to Bloom
The Wave: MAY 2024
The time to bloom...
The warm weather is here and we are excited to start our sprint to year end with activities, outdoor learning, and trips too!
School Updates
A few things to note:
1. There is a PA Day on MAY 31st. As well, no school on the 20th due to the long weekend.
2. Our Food Sharing program continues to be a success with Ms G planning healthy snack menus and putting out foods each day. We received another generous donation from the community to continue running our FS program for the rest of the year!
3. We have a primary student at school with an anaphylactic allergy to tree nuts. At this time, we have not made the shift to being a nut-free building as we have in the past. Please feel free to continue sending lunches for your own student as you have been, however if you choose to send birthday treats, snacks, or participate in hot lunches that are to be shared, those MUST be nut free (for legal, safety, and inclusivity reasons), otherwise they will not be handed out.
4. We are busy practicing for Road Race on May 8th, and Track and Field on May 24th. We also have 3 trips coming up this month and EQAO for our Grades 3 and 6's. Please see the calendar for an overview of dates.

From the office of Ms. G...
Our Bingo night was huge success (even though I didn’t win) and I’m so excited for our upcoming car wash fundraiser and Parent Council BBQ.
I was lucky enough to join Ms. Cooper’s class to Topsy Farm for the first time. It was amazing watching Kayleigh shear the ewe. My favourite part though was seeing the highland cows.
I also got to participate with Pitch In Day at the school. My group of walkers cleaned up a ton of garbage along Front Rd from the school to the park, and we had so much fun.
I’m looking forward to May, celebrating our incredible volunteers, and the beautiful weather we will hopefully get.

In class, we are putting our year long focus of using morphetic reading skills to increase our fluency and rate to good work by reading about persuasive and controversial topics and apply deep, thoughtful critical thinking skills and look through multiple perspectives. We are continuing to synthesize our writing skills with a focus on pieces that include complex sentence variety, impactful word choice, and solid editing skills. In math, we are having some fun with area and geometry, and getting ready for our grade 6's to write EQAO.
This month, we have our last fundraising event for our trip to Niagara Falls, as well as a trip to Queen's for sports day, Gould Lake, Road Race and Track & Field too!

In French, the Primaries began a new unit on toys (les jouets) and the Seniors on directions. We are having fun learning new vocabulary, building sentences and .
The students have been hard at work making a secret project for Mother’s Day that they are excited to give to their moms! The Seniors recently finished making a dragon’s eye out of clay and are learning about different types of dance and how the elements of dance exist across forms and styles. Later this month, we are looking forward to hosting an experiential learning expert from the school board to lead the Senior students in a woodworking project!
The students are finishing their research projects in Social Studies that cover a broad range of topics such as: local and global communities, Ontario and Canada, government, international accords (WHO, UN, NATO) and physical patterns in the world.
