From Principal McCray

Good evening families,

Encourage your student to check the school’s lost-and-found! Looking for a missing coat? Searching for a lost water bottle? As the weather turns cooler and students are bringing jackets to school, it’s a great time to remind them to look through the lost-and-found if they are missing an item. We ask families to label student items with a last name or initials so we can return anything that has gotten lost.

Career Day is coming to Arbor View on December 9! We are looking for presenters with interesting or inspiring careers to join us from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, December 9. Keep reading below for more details and a sign-up link!

Thank you to our PTC for organizing the fall parties, our family volunteers helping with the parties, and all of our families that came out to watch the parade. Have a great long weekend!

Way to go, Roadrunners!

Reminder: No school November 2-3

Note: Quick update to drop-off routine (starting Monday, October 26)

When signing in your student on the device in the foyer, please fill out the lunch choice sheet located right next to it if your child will be having school lunch or ordering milk. Completing this sheet—especially when arriving late—helps us ensure that every student who wants a school lunch or milk receives one. Once the sheet is filled out, your child can drop it in the office on the way to class.

Please keep in mind that if your student arrives after 11:00 AM, their preferred lunch choice may not be available. Thank you for your cooperation!

Reminder: District policy on cell phones and personal devices during school day

Per CCSD 89 policy, cell phones and other personal electronic devices must remain out of sight and may not be used during the school day. While recent state legislation mandating this takes effect in 2027–28, our district policy is already active. Devices must be put away throughout the instructional day unless an approved exception is documented with the district. This policy helps to minimize distractions, disruptions and privacy concerns. Read full FAQs for parents and students

If your child uses their phone to manage a medical condition or for an approved academic reason, families should complete the CCSD 89 Student Use of Personal Technology Waiver on an annual basis to request an exemption. Completed forms should be returned to the main office.

  • All adults must bring a valid photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, or passport).

  • You will check in using an iPad in the school’s lobby.

  • Please allow an extra 5 minutes before your scheduled start time for this check-in process.

D89 Basketball registration deadline extended

Registration for D89 Basketball has been extended by one week and will remain open through Sunday, November 8. The D89 Basketball League plays games in CCSD 89 schools and offers boys’ and girls’ divisions for 3rd/4th grades and 5th/6th grades. The season runs from mid-November through the end of February and costs $65 per player. Financial assistance is available.

No previous experience is required for any age group, including the 5th/6th grade league. Since many experienced players have moved on to travel teams, D89 offers a wonderful opportunity for beginners to learn the game in a supportive setting.

Teams practice weekly with games on Saturday. Information about tryouts will be sent to all who register. Register now | Explore program details

It is early flu season and the CDC is offering tips for avoiding the flu, as well as information on the flu vaccine. Your family’s doctor or the school nurse can help answer any questions. When ill, students must stay home until 24 hours have passed with no signs of fever without fever-reducing medication. Be sure to review requirements before bringing food for other students

If you’re bringing food to school, be sure you know what is approved by reviewing the district's pre-approved food list at www.ccsd89.org/preapproved.

Fee waivers for school fees and school lunch program

The district uses two separate processes to determine eligibility for a waiver of school fees and for the free/reduced lunch program.

The district’s fee waiver application is available on our website at www.ccsd89.org/feewaiver or under the Board of Education tab, policy 4:140-E1 Application for Fee Waiver. The forms can be filled out and submitted with your income-verification documents directly to the district office (22W600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn), attention Courtney Czerwinski.

If you have more than one child in the district, you may submit one application for free/reduced lunch and another application for waiver of fees. Both applications can be submitted at the same time with the necessary documentation to avoid any delay in processing.

If you have any questions regarding the National School Lunch Program application or fee waiver application, please contact Courtney Czerwinski at 630-469-8900, ext. 3519 or cczerwinski@ccsd89.org.

Resources for helping your child through difficult times

Tragedy can affect a nation or a single family. Some crises happen suddenly while others build over time. Each situation can be difficult for children to understand and challenging for families to navigate. Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations. The district has also posted additional resources at www.ccsd89.org/crisis
