METCO Newsletter
Bedford METCO | October 2026 | Week 10/12
I hope you and your family had a wonderful long weekend and found some time to rest, reconnect, and enjoy one another. As we return from Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we’re reminded of the importance of learning each other’s histories and helping our children appreciate the many voices that shape our communities.
Across Bedford Public Schools, there are new opportunities for students and families to help shape the district’s work. The Student Voice Council and Family Voice Council have begun meeting, and students are also participating in the Anti-Hate/Anti-Bias Taskforce. It’s encouraging to see young people included in conversations about their school experience. At home, try asking your child, “What’s one thing that helped you feel included at school this week?” Their answers can open the door to conversations we might otherwise miss.
A few helpful reminders: families can now access their children’s MCAS results through the MCAS Family Portal, using the registration code available in Aspen. Please also check your email for the district’s annual Federal Impact Aid Survey and complete one for each enrolled child. These are small steps that help you stay informed and support our schools.
Looking ahead to November, we’re excited for the return of Community Bowling with the Parents Diversity Council (PDC)! This is a chance to spend time together outside of school, meet other families, and let our children see the adults in their lives building connections, too. Whether you’re a great bowler or just coming for the laughs, we hope you’ll join us. The PDC works to strengthen belonging among Bedford, Boston, and Hanscom families, and our METCO families are an important part of that community.
We also hope you’ll save November 18 for our Community Film and Dialogue event. This gathering offers another way to connect through listening, sharing experiences, and having thoughtful conversations about identity, belonging, and discrimination. You don’t need to have the perfect words or all the answers. Your experiences and your willingness to listen are enough. We would love to see our families come out and support both November events. Please watch for event flyers and registration information.
As we settle into this shorter school week, please reach out if your child needs support with schoolwork, friendships, or getting back into their routine. We want to hear about the good moments, too. A small success can mean a great deal to a child, and we’re always happy to celebrate it with you.
This week’s late bus schedule is attached below. Please review it with your child and confirm their after-school plans with METCO staff so we can help everyone get home smoothly.
Thank you for the trust you place in us and for everything you do to support your children. They deserve to feel seen, supported, and proud of who they are, and that work is stronger when we do it together.
Wishing you and your family a positive week ahead,
Akil Mondesir
Director of METCO & Community Engagement
