What a great week!
The highlight was definitely our week-long residency with Circus Smirkus and Mr. Josh. The students enjoyed learning new skills like balancing peacock feathers, spinning plates, juggling scarves and tumbling. The enjoyment the kids found in doing these activities motivated them to apply the very special Circus Secrets. These secrets apply to learning anything new --and I know they will become a part of our teaching and learning language at SCS, and maybe for you at home as well. My kids are 18 and 20 years old now, but I still remind them to use Mr. Rick's Circus Secrets when learning new things! It's been fun to have these common phrases as part of our journey through childhood.
This coming week students in 3rd - 5th grades will start the VT CAP standardized assessments in English Language Arts (ELA), Math and Science (for 5th grade only). Please see the letter below that went home last week with the students. We appreciate parents helping to make sure their student gets a good night's sleep and a strong start to the mornings, especially for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.
This time of year brings lots of fluctuating temperatures --where one day it's spring and the next we're back in winter. Please help make sure your student has an extra layer everyday, whether it's a fleece coat or something heavier. Hats and mittens are still a good idea in backpacks as well --and must be worn if temps are below 30 degrees.
We know the warm temperatures will be here eventually and we're all looking forward to a great last quarter of the school year.
Have a great weekend,
Tracey
The Week in Photos
Circus Smirkus Fun!
I will share more photos from the student performance next week. Both Emily Blistein from ACSD and Steve James from the Addy Indy were there photographing the event, and their photos will be much better than mine!
The 3rd - 5th grades Science Discovery Club had a great time on Wednesday launching their hot air balloons. It was amazing to see what hot air does when inside a big balloon-like object!

The IB PYP Exhibition: A journey of Inquiry!
We are thrilled to announce the start of the IB PYP Exhibition for our 5th grade students. This is a monumental milestone in our student’s elementary education—a "capstone" project that celebrates everything they have learned during their time in the Primary Years Program. Exhibition is a student-led, collaborative inquiry process. Students identify a real-world issue they are passionate about, conduct research, and take meaningful action to make a difference.
5th grade families will receive a longer email with more details, but our entire ACSD community can support our students: 1) If you know a student involved in Exhibition ask them what they are discovering and how it affects our world! 2) If you want to be a mentor or offer your real-world expertise for students whose topic relates to your work, contact your principal or Brandi Corbett, PYP Coordinator, bcorbett@acsdvt.org
