SISD Welcomes Emily Henvey as New Director of Communications & Marketing
The SISD Board of Trustees approved Emily Henvey as SISD’s new Director of Communications & Marketing at the January 21 board meeting.
Henvey is an experienced communicator who joins Sunnyvale with over 20 years of communications, education and journalism under her belt.
“Ms. Henvey is eager to learn how to best serve the communication needs of Sunnyvale ISD and adds a new dimension to our communications efforts,” Superintendent Matt Kimball said. “We are excited about what her talents and experience will bring to SISD parents, students and the Sunnyvale community.”
After a distinguished career as a school journalism and publications educator, Henvey worked for the City of Grapevine as the Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Communications Coordinator. In 2021, she was named the Grapevine CVB’s Rookie of the Year. She has taught in Plano, Richardson, and Frisco. In her most recent position, she served as an AV Production, Entrepreneurship, Sports & Entertainment, Social Media & Fashion Marketing Educator.
“Prior to coming to Sunnyvale ISD, I had the exciting privilege to work in communications for the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau,” Henvey said. “In this role, I gained experience in writing, event planning and media outreach. It was important to work closely with area business leaders, city board members, staff team members, the Grapevine community and local media to ensure a comprehensive communications message was delivered. Additionally, having served for over two decades as a teacher, guiding students through journalism, yearbook, broadcast and marketing classes, I have gained a well-rounded understanding of the unique needs of a school district. With this combination of experience and my passion for sharing engaging stories of the people who define a community, I’m excited to build strong relationships and highlight the success stories of Sunnyvale ISD.”
Henvey said that her initial goal at SISD is to get to know SISD’s staff, students, and community.
“It’s important for me to take time to get to know Sunnyvale ISD’s culture and community and understand how I can best serve the community's needs,” she said. “My primary goal is to continue to showcase the families, students and staff who have worked so very hard to create Sunnyvale ISD’s reputation as a district of excellence.”
It was SISD’s solid reputation that led Henvey to the district.
“Sunnyvale’s reputation as a district of excellence is well known across North Texas, and I am excited to have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact for the families and staff who make Sunnyvale a great place to learn and work,” she said. “Sunnyvale ISD makes community, collaboration and student success top priorities, and I am eager to help support those goals every day.”
Henvey says that being transparent is her top priority.
“Building trust and confidence through open, transparent and consistent communication is one of the most important aspects of my role,” she said. “It’s essential that our school district’s stakeholders - parents, students, and staff- feel informed, engaged and valued. This means ensuring timely, consistent communication as well as sharing relevant and vital information in a way that is accessible for a variety of audiences. I will continue to implement communication paths which allow people to easily find the information they need in a way that works best for them.”
Henvey has been married to husband Patrick for 30 years. The couple has two children: Audrey Henvey, 26 and Winston Henvey, 25. Audrey works for D CEO Magazine and Winston works for Star Local Media. The Henveys live in Richardson.
