Lake Orion HS Newsletter
September 15, 2025

Week of November 17, 2025
Hello Dragon Families,
We want to take a moment to thank you for your dedication, teamwork, and collaboration within our school community. Our teachers, staff, and students thrive because of your continued support. As we head into Thanksgiving break, we hope youβre able to enjoy quality time with your loved ones, savor the little moments, and soak in all the glimmers of good around you.
Since we will only be in school November 24 and 25 prior to Thanksgiving, there will be no newsletter communication next week. Newsletters will resume on Monday, December 1st.
We are looking forward to finishing the 2025 school year strong!

NOCC NEWS
NOCC has loved engaging with students during No Vape November, using hands-on learning to understand the risks of vaping, and the importance of a healthy, vape-free lifestyle. We will be back during all lunch periods on Thursday, November 20 with more games and new prizes!
This week, we want to keep parents in the loop with what they need to know when it comes to vaping.
We've shared some images here of different kinds of vapes and THC pens that are commonly used by teens. If you see your child using one of these devices, make sure to talk to them about the risks associated with vaping, and offer open communication and support about trying to quit.
You can see this graphic and more No Vape November posts on the North Oakland Community Coalition's Facebook page here. For information about the risks of vaping, and how to start the conversation with your child about vaping, visit NOCC's website here.
GAP Clubs
Keep up to date on all GAP Clubs & Extracurricular After School Activities on X (formerly Twitter)! New clubs will be announced over the next few weeks. See below for the many groups running this week. Reach out to Mr. Kimball if you have questions.
Club/Organization Group Photo Day is Nov 25
Club/Organization Group Photo Day Schedule
The schedule is below for specific times for each group. Students are responsible for having any/all t-shirts for the club(s) in which they participate. There are no make-up photos/days.
Announcements will be made at the beginning of each skinny period calling the groups scheduled down to the auditorium. Students should be aware of when their groups will be called down, so they can listen for the announcement. Any questions or concerns, email Yearbook Adviser Stephanie Orth at stephanie.orth@lok12.org.
LO-AM
Three LO-AM live newscasts this week. And on Saturday, the MHSAA has asked our crew to live-stream the Football Semifinal between Cass Tech and Rochester Adams at Troy Athens!
As always, you have access to all broadcasts via our website at www.dragonbroadcasting.org.
***There are a variety of scammers out there trying to get you to click on their fake link. WE are Lake Orion High School's broadcast program, and WE will always post the correct info!***
Dragons Abroad Going to Japan 2027
Upcoming Meeting ON Wednesday, December 3
There will be an informational/parent meeting on Wednesday, December 3 in the KIVA from 6-7 p.m. Any questions, please reach out to Wendy Baeckeroot.
College and Career Corner
Grace Christian College will be on campus Thursday this week and the US Navy and MI Army National Guard will have informational tables at lunch.
Grand Valley State University will be conducting onsite admission interviews November 19. If a senior would like to be added to the list, please email CareerCenter@lok12.org or stop by to see Ms. Pavelich to learn more about the process.
This fall the Career Center welcomed 66 college, trade and military admission representatives to campus for our junior and seniors interested in learning about campus, scholarships and academic programs. Students were able to engage in conversations with a wide range of institutions such as the US Naval Academy, Purdue University, Grace Christian College, Savannah College of Art & Design, Johns Hopkins University, Vanderbilt University and the University of Alabama as well as all public Michigan universities. With more than 96 % of LOHSβ recent graduating class attending post-secondary education, enlisting in the military, or attending a vocational trade school after graduation, this opportunity enables all our students to reach the District Mission of Empower the Dragon Community to Achieve Excellence by bringing the future directly to them and preparing them for their next step after Lake Orion High School. If a student was unable to attend a visit, please encourage them to stop by the Career Center and view the admission materials provided by the representatives.
All information on November and December service opportunities can be found online in studentβs x2VOL account.

Attendance Spotlight
Reporting Absences and Early Dismissals
LOHS utilizes School Dismissal Manager (SDM) for reporting absences and early dismissals. It is accessible through SDM Website or smartphone app - no need to call the school.
- First time users must sign in to SDM using the welcome email sent to families at the end of August. Email Ms. Humes for assistance.
- When signing your child out early, please remind them to check their email for the SDM confirmation.
- They will need to show the SDM confirmation email to their teacher and the front door attendance clerk when leaving.
- Thereβs no need for parent/guardian to come into the building once permission has been given via SDM or phone call.
If further assistance is needed:
- for SDM, contact Ms. Humes at patricia.humes@lok12.org or 248-693-5420 option 1.
- for the early dismissal line, please contact Jennifer Ply at 248-693-5420 option 2.
