5th Grade News

What a busy week we've just had! I thought things would slow down after Catholic School's Week, but we keep pushing forward quickly! Congratulations to Logan and Siena for representing 5th grade at the Spelling Bee this week, and to Logan for taking 2nd place! Way to go!
We continue to make progress with our State Report, finishing up "History Timelines" this week. Next week, we begin our last research chapter: "Colleges & Universities". We are nearing the end of this big project! This is a good time to check that bibliographies are in good order, we've final drafted all our chapters, and check things over for overall consistency in chapters. In Math, we finished our topic on multiplying fractions, and took our test today. Next up, we will learn to divide fractions. The class did really well with multiplying them, so I know they will be great at dividing them! In SciTrek the class finished presenting their posters, and tied all they did to our science standards, finishing up our SciTrek modules for the year. In Religion, we started creating posters for a future Stations of the Cross prayer during Lent.
Valentine's Day falls on a weekend this year, so we will be celebrating on Thursday, February 12. Students are invited to wear valentine colors: think red, pink, and purple. They are also welcome to bring in valentines for their class if they want. We have 25 students, and I ask that you please just put who each valentine is from, as this makes distribution easier. Thank you!
Our field trip to Arroyo Burro is coming up on February 25. Thank you for getting permission slips in quickly. We are in need of drivers, so please let me know if you are able to help out by sending me an email with the number of seatbelts you have available in your car. I will send you the driver info!
Next week, we have our WASC/WCEA Accreditation visit on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There will be visitors coming in and out of the classroom during those days. They are really here to see all the amazing parts of our school!
