Message from Principal Groves
Dear Blacklick Families:
I am so proud of our Blacklick students! Our students have done an amazing job settling into their daily routines and completing their beginning-of-the-year assessments. Our teachers are currently reviewing this data from both the Acadience and MAP assessments and look forward to sharing your child's growth and test results with you during our upcoming parent-teacher conferences.

Blacklick Related Arts Team Update!
PE in Grade 1
First graders are continuing to develop their ability to demonstrate an understanding of personal space and body awareness when performing various locomotor movements throughout the gym. They are also working on catching using their hands. Fingers pointing down when catching a ball below the waist and fingers pointing up when catching above the waist.
Art in Grade 1
1st grade students have been developing their observation skills! We have viewed different types of still life paintings, and have practiced the art of drawing overlapping objects. Students have created their own still life drawings from real props in the art room and are beginning to paint their work with watercolors!
Library in Grade 1
First graders have been exploring nonfiction! We are introducing new sections of the library throughout our first grade year, starting with the nonfiction section. We talked about choosing one book that is a Good Fit and one that is Just for Fun. Hopefully they are bringing home great books but, if one is too hard for them, they know they can bring it back and exchange it at any time.
Music in Grade 1
First graders just finished celebrating hispanic heritage month by learning a rain song in Spanish, Que Llueva. First grade got to compare the sounds of a new instrument, rain sticks, and now will have the opportunity to create their own.
