CMS Families,

As the end of the year approaches please partner with our staff by reminding our Colts of our school expectations:

• Dress Code--as the weather warms please make sure your child is in dress code. Shorts are required to be PAST the knuckles naturally when standing.
• Dress Code--School IDs are required to be worn and visible every day in GCISD. Students without an ID will be sent to the office and charge $5 for a replacement.
• Cell Phones/Headphones--Cell phones are only allowed to be used during the lunch period. Airpods and headphones should not be worn in class or during passing period.
• Horseplay/Putting Hands on Each Other--Horseplay or putting your hands on another student will not be tolerated. Horseplay has led to fights, destruction of property, and injuries. Intent does not matter.
• Vandalism/Viral Trends--We have seen an increase in vandalism to our bathrooms and school furniture, usually the result of a current TikTok or viral trend. Consequences will be severe and damages charged.

Registering your student for the 2025-2026 school year before May 16. The earlier you register, the better we can plan as campuses are staffed based on registration numbers. Registering now helps GCISD avoid last-minute hiring or staff relocations when the school year begins.

• Pre-K: Complete the pre-K online application first

• New siblings: Log in to Skyward Family Access and add a new student by selecting the “New Student Online Enrollment” tab.

  Important note: CMS is a closed campus during STAAR testing and STAAR makeup testing dates. Please do not drop off lunches or make other visits to the campus on these dates.

  
  

  This is the bell schedule for the Math and Algebra STAAR assessment, as all students will be taking an exam.

  
  

  Online Practice Tools

  To prepare for these online assessments, students have had the opportunity to practice the online tools for STAAR testing.

  Students can also practice the online tools at home using the practice testing site. These are the same online tools students used last year for STAAR testing. To practice at home on this site, see instructions HERE.

  
  

  Other Important Information

  • It is very important that students bring their charged GCISD-issued device and charger in order to access the secure testing app and successfully login to take the assessments. Information about how to replace a missing charger can be found HERE.

  • Please help us remind students with oral accommodations to bring their headphones.

  • Students may bring bottled water and a small, quiet snack to have on testing days.

Every week our staff members have the opportunity to nominate one CMS Student to receive a Colt Pride Award. These students have demonstrated at least one of our Colt Pride Values: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, Excellence! Way to go COLTS!

The Annual CMS Color Run is coming up soon on Friday, May 2 from 2:30-3:30!

This is a unique and fun way for us to get some exercise and enjoy the May sunshine.

After the run, students will be allowed to purchase concessions for $1 an item and to hang out on the field while listening to music. Kona Ice will also be here with $5 snow cones.

Students who are interested in attending can register and pay $15 on the stage during lunch beginning Monday, April 28-Thursday, May 1. Once students complete the registration process by paying the fee of $15 ($10 for siblings), they can receive a FREE t-shirt to wear the day of the Color Run! We accept cash/check. Because we have a limited supply of t-shirts, we encourage students to pay early!

This event is sponsored by our campus leadership groups: CMS Student Council, AVID, NJHS, PALS, and Hope Squad.

In the case of inclement weather we will monitor and decide what is best for our students’ safety. If it is lightly raining and still safe for our students, we will plan on having students participate in the fun!.

Pro Tips:

• Have a towel or trash bag ready to protect your car seats when picking up your child.

• Send your student with a little extra cash, or card to purchase snacks from the concession stand or Kona Ice.

• Encourage your child to be on their best behavior this week, so they won’t miss out on all the fun!

• Please be sure your student is wearing clothes and shoes that can get wet and dirty. We will have water sprinklers along the route, so keep this in mind as students are getting dressed for the day.

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK
Our favorite week is ahead, and we need your help in showing all of our love and appreciation to our teachers and staff at CMS. Please consider donating a giftcard to be drawn for each and every staff member during Staff Appreciation Week!

We have a goal of sending each staff member home with at least $20 worth of gift cards. If you choose to send in a $10 gift card that is absolutely fine as well. We can stack it with another gift card. These can all be dropped off at the front office with Mrs. Galaise.

COUNSELOR SNACK MINISTRY
If you know Mrs. Alvarado and Mr. Cornelius, you know that kids love to just go visit them to chat and grab a snack if they need it. We know how hungry middle school students can be!
