Third Grade
Welcome to Third Grade
This week in ELA, we begin reading realistic fiction with a focus on how environments affect lives and relationships. We will also learn how to make inferences and use evidence to support understanding.
In Social Studies, we will discover how natural resources are used in different parts of the country.
In Math, students will be working on multiplication patterns and properties of multiplication.
In Science, students will be learning about patterns in motion and using the patterns to predict future motion.
Fourth Grade
Welcome to Fourth Grade
Fourth grade is a major milestone year where students transition from foundational learning to higher-level, independent thinking. In school, we often say that this is the year students switch from "learning to read" to "reading to learn," and from "learning basic math facts" to "applying math to complex problems."
Because the academic workload becomes a bit more rigorous, it is completely normal if your child experiences a few adjustment jitters. To support them at home, here are some practical, low-pressure tips for navigating 4th-grade reading and math. Read the same book as your child independently or aloud. Take time to discuss the main plot, character motivations, and your opinions on the story. Hunt for real-world word problems by practicing math naturally throughout the day. Ask your child to use multiplicative comparisons, such as: "The cat weighs 8 pounds, but the dog weighs 56 pounds. How many times heavier is the dog?"
In Reading, students will understand a biography by analyzing main ideas and details and generating questions. In Social Studies, students will know that people adapt to and change the environment to meet their needs. In Science, students will investigate how energy causes change that can be observed, described, and measured. In Math, students will use number sense and regrouping to subtract.
Let's have a great week on purpose!!
Warmly,
The Fourth Grade Team
Fifth Grade
Welcome to Fifth Grade
Good day Tigers!! Happy September to you! Thank you for all of your hard work and perseverance. Fifth grade will require getting use to, but if you continue to listen, focus, complete your assignments, and follow directions given, it will be a smoother transition. Hang in there! Homework and assignments can seem a bit overwhelming, but continue to exercise those fifth grade muscles and you'll be just fine. Practice makes perfect and practice makes permanent. Be encouraged scholars!! Remember, The Champion's Journey for this month is: responsibility and getting to know yourself as a scholar. Don't give up. Continue to journey forward knowing greatness will be your outcome.
