SUPERINTENDENT & PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Hello GLTS Community,

As we close out a fantastic first week of school, we wanted to connect with you. It was wonderful to see the campus buzzing with energy again. This week, Mr. Jackson had the pleasure of speaking with every grade level in their welcome back assemblies, and we wanted to share the core message with you as we begin our partnership this year.

From our new freshmen to our graduating seniors, the focus of his message was on purpose, professionalism, and the responsibility students have to themselves and our community. He stressed that the professional habits we practice at school, like punctuality, are not simply rules but are the essential building blocks for a successful future. He also encouraged them to make wise decisions to protect the opportunities they are working so hard to create. Lastly, he challenged them to set ambitious goals, reminding them that the entire GLTS community is here to help them succeed.

We share this with you because the partnership between home and school is vital to student success. The values and expectations we reinforce here are most effective when they are echoed at home. Thank you for your support in getting your students to school on time and ready to learn each day. We are grateful to partner with you and look forward to a great year of growth and achievement for our students.

Have a wonderful week ahead!

John N. Lavoie

Bus Transportation Bus Transportation

We are aware of capacity concerns on some school buses as we begin the new year. Please know that we are actively monitoring all routes to ensure they are properly balanced.

Each year, during the first few weeks of school, we refine our bus routes based on actual daily ridership. This adjustment process is already underway to ensure all students have a safe and comfortable ride to and from school.

In the coming weeks, once our enrollment has solidified, students will also receive new ID cards with their bus stop information clearly listed.

Thank you for your patience as we finalize our transportation schedules. If you have specific concerns about your student's bus, please contact Ms. Cruz in our SAFE Office at gcruz@glts.net.

For information on bus schedules, pick-up and drop-off locations and times, please visit the school website: GLTS Bus Routes

Attention Student Drivers Attention Student Drivers

This is a reminder that the student parking lot is on the tennis court side of the building. The spaces by the fence in the teacher zone are for overflow parking. Although we anticipate needing them as more students get their licenses and begin driving, there is currently plenty of space in the student lot.

We will be monitoring parking closely. Students in violation may have their parking privileges revoked.
Additionally, all student drivers must register their cars and obtain a parking permit. Failure to do so may affect your ability to park on campus. Beginning Monday, September 8th, we will be tagging cars that are in violation or do not have a parking sticker.

Please reach out to Mr. Vogel with any questions or concerns.

What You Need to Know about Powerschool What You Need to Know about Powerschool

We are excited to provide you with direct access to your student’s academic and career technical education progress through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This portal is the only way to view your student’s current grades, attendance, and other important information.

Login instructions for the PowerSchool Parent Portal will be sent out early next week by our Student Information Office.

You will receive:

  • A link to create your own PowerSchool Parent Portal account, including instructions for setting up your username and password.

  • An Access ID and Access Password to securely link your account to your student’s information.

At the same time, grade 10 - 12 families will also receive a separate link to complete the Enrollment Verification process. This will allow you to:

Upcoming Map Growth Testing Upcoming Map Growth Testing

Next week, our students will take the MAP Growth tests in reading and math during Periods 2 and 3. The schedule is as follows:

  • Grades 9 & 10: Monday, September 8th & Tuesday, September 9th.

  • Grades 11 & 12: On their academic days (Mon/Tues for Orange week; Weds/Thurs for Black week).

This adaptive test measures what your child knows and is ready to learn next. It is not a pass/fail assessment; rather, we use the results to personalize instruction and track student growth.

Please help your child prepare with a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. Encourage them to simply do their best, treating this as a low-pressure opportunity to show what they know. For 9th and 10th graders, these results may inform minor schedule adjustments to provide the right support or enrichment. Any potential change would be a simple switch between classes within the same period. We will share your child's results and explain what they mean for their learning journey later this fall.

Thank you for your partnership in supporting your student's success.

Update from the IT Department Update from the IT Department

Update on Student Access to Google Services for the 2025–2026 School Year

As we get ready for the upcoming school year, we want to share an important update aimed at strengthening student safety, privacy, and focus during school hours.

What’s New?

Beginning in the fall, students will no longer be able to directly access YouTube.com or other non-core Google services—such as Google Earth, Google Translate, and similar tools—using their school accounts or Chromebooks.

Why This Matters

These services are not part of Google’s core suite of educational tools (like Google Classroom and Google Docs), and therefore don’t fall under the same student data privacy agreements. They also collect user data and may display personalized ads, which raises concerns when it comes to student use.

Because students under 18 require parental consent to use these additional Google apps, collecting permission for all students would be very difficult. This would create unequal access and make consistent lesson planning challenging for teachers.

Impact on Instruction

Students will still benefit from educational video content. Teachers can continue to share curriculum-aligned videos by embedding approved resources directly into Google Classroom or Slides, and other appropriate platforms. This approach allows students to stay engaged with learning while avoiding the distractions that come with unrestricted YouTube browsing. We are committed to addressing any emerging issues related to technology, curriculum, and instruction, thereby ensuring that teachers and students possess the essential tools to achieve their educational goals in both academic and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.

Use of Personal Devices

All students are assigned a school-owned Chromebook for educational purposes. In order to ensure the safety of our network and optimal functioning of all technology within the school, students and staff are prohibited from using personal devices to access the Network; this includes cellphones, Ipads, and laptops. Any exceptions to this rule must be approved by GLTS Administration and the IT Department.

Looking Ahead

We will continue to support teachers, students and families through this transition. Thank you for partnering with us to keep students safe, focused, and ready to succeed.
