Principal's Corner Principal's Corner

Dear Milwood Elementary School Community:

What a successful first month of school we have experienced. Milwood Panthers have begun the academic year with strong enthusiasm, focus, and determination.

We are pleased to observe our students demonstrating commitment to their learning, practicing positive behavior, and engaging with our year-long emphasis on kindness. Significant progress is evident daily across our classrooms and school community.

Moving forward, our team remains committed to enhancing student engagement, supporting academic mastery, and providing meaningful learning experiences for all students. We look forward to maintaining this positive progress.

Kind Regards

Early Pick Up Early Pick Up

We understand that sometimes you need to pick up your child early for an appointment, and we're happy to help make that work. To keep our classrooms focused on learning, we ask that students not be dismissed before 3:50 p.m. If you need to arrange an early pickup, please call the office by 3:30 p.m. or arrive before 3:30 p.m. to collect your child. When the office reaches out to classrooms for early dismissals, it interrupts valuable instructional time for all students. We truly appreciate your partnership in reserving early pickups for appointments and allowing your child to benefit from the full school day whenever possible.

Attendance Matters Attendance Matters

Attendance matters means that showing up to school, class, or work is important and has a direct impact on success, learning, and performance.

  • Academic Success: Students who attend class regularly perform better on tests and get higher grades.
  • Early Warning Signs: Missing just two days a month (called chronic absenteeism) can cause a child to fall behind in reading by the third grade.
  • Graduation Rates: Good attendance in elementary and high school strongly predicts whether a student will graduate on time.
  • Social Growth: Being present helps students build relationships with friends and teachers and feel connected to their school

Count Day Count Day

Fall Count Day for the 2026–2027 school year is Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Please be sure your child is here to be counted.

Why Attendance Matters Today:

  • Per-Pupil Funding: State funding for our schools depends directly on the number of students present.

  • Resources & Programs: Attendance helps fund teachers, technology, arts, athletics, and classroom supplies.

  • Every Seat Filled: If a student must be absent due to illness, please inform the main office promptly so their attendance can still be accounted for under state guidelines.

Please make sure your child arrives on time and ready to learn!
