End of Year 2026
Message from the Principal
Greetings, SMS Families!
We wrapped up the school year with our Moving-Up Ceremony on Wednesday, June 24th. It was a special moment to honor our 8th graders as they prepare for the exciting journey ahead. We send them off with our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for continued success beyond Springville Middle School.
As we look back on the year, I want to extend my sincere thanks to all of our SMS families. Your ongoing support and partnership have been essential, not only during milestone events, but in the everyday moments that shape our school community. The growth and positive momentum we've experienced at SMS over the past few years have been truly inspiring, and it's a direct result of the collaboration between our students, staff, and families.
This year marks the end of my third year in Springville, and I continue to feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a vibrant, caring, and committed school community. It's been exciting to see the progress we've made together, and I'm eager to build that momentum in the year ahead. Planning for the fall is already in motion, and we're looking forward to welcoming students back in September with fresh energy and new opportunities.
One important logistical note as you head into summer: starting in September 2026, the district will be transitioning to ParentSquare as our primary communication platform. All school, grade-level, classroom, athletic, and extracurricular communications will come through ParentSquare going forward. This change was first shared with families back in November 2025, you can review those details here: https://www.springvillegi.org/article/2566160.
Wishing you and your family a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer break!
Respectfully,
Dr. Fisher
Have a great summer!

Saying Goodbye to Seniors
Trip to Niagara Falls
Seventh-grade had a great time exploring Niagara Falls! The group rode the Maid of the Mist, walked through the Cave of the Winds, learned about the history and wrapped up with lunch and games at an arcade!
Fine Arts Club News
Middle School Mural
The 2025-2026 Middle School Fine Arts Club Members collaborated to create a mural of the school. The hand-painted piece incorporates organic images of the state bird, state flower and the United States flag in front of the horizontal, grid-like architecture of the mid-20th century structure. If you would like to see the painting in person, it is hung outside the District Office.
Painting on the Ceiling
The Middle School Fine Arts Club was asked to paint murals on the ceiling of Mrs. Jasinski's Spanish room. Seventeen dedicated club members worked very hard to design and paint the nine ceiling tiles representing Spanish speaking countries. Compromise, collaboration, and teamwork were a necessary component in order for the partners to complete the task. Mrs. Jasinski is so pleased with their work, she has asked for nine more murals and Mrs. Jaeger, their advisor, is incredibly proud of each member who participated!
Trip to the WNY Book Arts Center
The SGI Middle School Art Club members visited the WNY Book Arts Center in downtown Buffalo. They took a tour of the gallery, artisan shop & studios. They learned about the screen-printing process from stencil-making to squeegee-holding. After a close vote, eighth grader Skylar Kowalczyk's t-shirt design received the honor of being screen printed on each child's t-shirt!
SMS Wellness Day
Learning about Elephant Research
Recently, sixth-grade students were able to Zoom with Julie Brzezicki, a Pioneer Central School graduate and Fulbright Scholarship recipient. Julia discussed her work with Asian elephants in her pursuit for her doctoral program. Julia was able to include pictures of her work with these endangered animals and talk about their behavior, personalities, human conflict and her observations while working with these majestic creatures in Sri Lanka. Since our 6th graders work on an endangered species project in ELA and talk about conservation in science class, this was a perfect opportunity for students to see how those projects relate to the real world!
Student Day at Bison's Stadium
Springville Middle School students and Colden Student Council members recently enjoyed a Buffalo Bison game on School Kids Day at Bison's Stadium!
Civil War Day at SMS
The Reynolds Battery, a group of local Civil War re-enactors, recently returned to Springville Middle School for "Civil War Day." Students learned firsthand about life during this time in history, from clothes and equipment to marching and naval movements. Seventh-grader Chase also had the chance to signal the firing of the cannon and received the firing pin as a souvenir! Thanks to these incredible volunteers for bringing history to life for our students!
Tech Wars
Recently, the Middle School Tech Wars team traveled to Buffalo to compete in ECC’s 2026 Tech Wars. Springville was one of 31 schools participating in this year’s competition. In the “Robot Drag Race”, 7th grader Ty Jordan took 2nd place, and 8th grader Ethan Healy took 3rd! Emery Hilliker placed 1st in the photography contest, which focused on industrial architecture. In “Bridge Building”, 8th grader Michael Bailey earned 3rd place! Congratulations to all of our SGI MS competitors!
Problem Solving
Mrs. Kocz's Reading class recently learned about the morpheme struct/stru, which means “to build.” To help reinforce both the morpheme and its meaning, students took on a fun hands-on challenge: building with LEGOs! This engaging activity allowed them to make a real-world connection to the meaning of the morpheme while practicing creativity and problem-solving skills.
