Dear Coyote Families,

It's been another fantastic week at Canyon View Elementary School. Here are just a few highlights:

This week students from all grade levels performed in the Canyon View Variety Show! What a treat to see so much talent and creativity on display! Our students had VAPA Vision on Thursday, where they experienced lessons focused on Visual Arts as well as Global Language and Culture. There were many wonderful happenings in the STEAM Lab with Mrs. Dawson as well. First grade explored experimented with gravity building ping-pong ball runs. Fifth grade engaged in an artist study of Monet, then used oil pastels and water to create versions of his work "Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies." Second grade has been creating collages in the style of Matisse. Third Grade has been building circuits.

Next week, we look forward to welcoming our Westview ambassadors to lead a Character Counts Assembly, which will also include a short performance from the Coyote Choir.

Let's Make it a GREAT week!

Congratulations Chuong Ho!

Chuong Ho is the heart and soul of the volunteer community at Canyon View Elementary. A dedicated parent, leader, and role model, Chuong has given countless hours to support students, staff, and families in ways that have truly transformed our school experience. As Foundation President and an active PTO Dad’s Club member, Chuong consistently goes above and beyond—often in the background, but always at the core of what makes Canyon View thrive. He helps lead and organize major school-wide events and fundraisers such as the Red Envelope Campaign, the Book Fair, the Jog-A-Thon, and classroom celebrations.

Chuong's leadership has directly contributed to securing resources and opportunities our students would not otherwise have, and his commitment ensures these events are not only successful but welcoming and fun for all. Chuong is not only a dedicated volunteer—he is a thoughtful advocate for equity and inclusion. He uses his voice and leadership to ensure that every student and family feels like a valued and celebrated member of the Canyon View community. He brings people together, uplifts diverse perspectives, and helps create a school culture where everyone feels like they belong.

Beyond official titles and roles, Chuong is a constant and cheerful presence on campus. Whether it’s processing donations, helping move classrooms over the summer, or pitching in with last-minute needs, he does so with humility, positivity, and an unwavering can-do attitude. He listens to feedback, values collaboration, and always keeps the best interest of our students and staff at the center of his work.

Canyon View staff describe Chuong as passionate, kind, and tireless. From the outside, it may look like he’s working full-time for our school—his dedication is that immense. We are incredibly lucky to have Chuong as part of our community. His service, leadership, and heart have made a lasting impact at Canyon View.

CATCHING UP WITH... Picture Books for Our Families CATCHING UP WITH... Picture Books for Our Families

Specially Curated Books from Ms. Alice Burge, CVES Library & Media Tech (& CVES Classified Employee of the Year!)

April is Autism Acceptance Month, a great opportunity to share stories about the diversity, strengths and unique voices of autistic individuals in our communities and around the world. Every effort – to listen, learn, advocate, support positive change and perform acts of kindness – makes a difference. Autism Acceptance Month recognizes that autism is more than a diagnosis. It is identity, community, and a lived experience that encompasses both challenges and triumphs. Here are some picture books to share with your family.

A Day With No Words, written by Tiffany Hammond, illustrated by Kate Cosgrove

Recently in the Canyon View Library, your student’s class shared in a reading and discussion of this story to recognize Autism Acceptance Month. Our school counselor generously donated a copy of this amazing book to our library – thank you, Ms. Gamelson! Written by an autistic mother of two autistic sons, A Day With No Words gives readers a glimpse into the daily life of a young, autistic boy who uses an assistive device to express his words and thoughts. There were so many things about this book that resonated with CVES students – the boy’s unique

Uniquely Wired: A Story about Autism and Its Gifts, written by Julia Cook, illustrated by Anita DuFalla

This is the story of Zak, a young boy living with autism who wants you to understand how he experiences the sights and sounds of the world around him. Zak knows he's not quite like his siblings and classmates. Bright lights and big crowds are overwhelming to him. Hugs make him uncomfortable, too. His atypical behaviors, from flapping his arms to spinning his body, seem out of place. But for Zak, that's just how he copes. Though his actions may seem peculiar to some, Zak's desires and disappointments are as ordinary as any child's. He loves watches; he hates being excluded. As Zak embraces life the only way he knows how, he teaches those around him important lessons about fairness, patience, curiosity and independence.

All My Stripes: A Story for Children with Autism, written by Shaina Rudolph and Danielle Royer, illustrated by Jennifer Zivion

This engaging story follows Zane, a young zebra on the autism spectrum who learns to understand how he is different from the rest of his classmates. Zane often feels worried that his classmates don't notice his "curiosity," "honesty," or "caring" stripes, just his "autism" stripe. With the help of his Mama, Zane comes to appreciate all of his stripes, including his autism stripe, as the unique strengths that make him who he is. This book, which is also available to borrow from the CVES Library, is a celebration of compassion and embracing your identity.
