Oak Ridge JH/HS Weekly Brief

Week 12 is completed! We welcomed back our XC team as they took part in the State Championship and brought back some hardware! We were business as usual throughout the week and stayed busy preparing for the Veterans Day Assembly that took place Friday! So many students, staff members, and community members held a part in ensuring that the Veterans Day Assembly was top notch for our Veterans. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in helping out and thank you to all the Veterans who have served this great nation!

If you plan on going deer hunting this weekend please be safe, check your stands before you get in them, and be aware of your surroundings. If you are a duck hunter, be sure to check your waders and know the depth of the water you are in.

I am proud of our students, staff, and community! This place makes my heart happy each and everyday!

Oak Ridge is a community with a long standing tradition of taking care of one another. I am no different and sometimes I need help too. You will notice every week I will need help with certain things around the school and I am looking for leaders and students that want to help make a positive impact on Oak Ridge Schools!

1. Respect. I want to make sure we are being respectful to our classmates and our teachers. Please step up and be a leader and ensure we are being respectful to everyone and ALL TIMES!
2. Walk to Lunch. Please make sure you are walking to lunch!
3. Keep your hands to yourself. Students keep your hands and feet to yourself. Horseplay is not allowed.

Seniors if you haven't already placed your graduation order please order online at www.thegraduationcenter.com or call Jostens directly at (573)546-7366 to place your order. No money is required to place the order via phone, balance will be due by March 1, 2024. Students if you call Jostens directly or order online, you will get your products faster.

• If you take medications please make sure they are kept in the nurse's office. No students should be carrying medications on them at anytime at school!

Grades 9-12 will be invited to the FCCLA sponsored bon fire. This will take place on Saturday November 18, from 6pm - 9pm. This event will include a bonfire, outdoor movie, games, hotdogs, chili, and smores. Donations will be collected to sponsor families for Christmas!

We assisted in starting the new chapter at Bell City on Wednesday. The picture is of our students who helped and the state FFA Officer Wyatt Hendely (back right). Wyatt finished 3rd in the nation for public speaking at Indianapolis last week. Wyatt graduated from Bloomfield last year and was the keynote speaker.

This week in Bloomfield, Taylor and Jesse took part in the Southeast District Speaking Contest (The district is from Ste. Gen to Ellington to Alton about 60 schools). Taylor did great but didn't move on. Only first place winners move on to the state finals. She was second in her category. Jesse helped with one of the 11 speaking contests (not Taylor's).

Oak Ridge High School is now officially registered for the Apprenticeship Program through The United States Department of Labor. This program will allow our students to get a jump start into career fields and trades while still being in high school. Their work hours will also go towards a work certificate that can be provided to them by the U.S. Department of Labor after 2000 hours of on the job learning/working. (While being paid!!) We look forward to expanding this program in the years to come! A huge SHOUTOUT to Mrs. Schroeder for all her handwork and effort to get us here! Thank you Mrs. Schroeder!
