Weekly Update 10/20/25

10-20-25
From the Principal
Parents, Students, and Faculty,
We had a successful first week back from Fall Break and are gearing up for another busy and exciting week at Seminole County Middle High School. On Tuesday, students will participate in the PSAT, and our 8th graders will head out on a field trip to Swamp Gravy. On Thursday, Youth Leadership students will meet, and that evening we’ll host a Community Pep Rally to bring everyone together in support of our teams and school spirit. Friday night will be Senior Night and our final home football game of the season as we face Randolph Clay—come out and show your support for our seniors and the Indians!
In other news, preparations for the new building are officially underway. We’ve begun moving some items in, and teachers are packing up materials they’re able to transition now. Plans are also being made to take students on tours of the new building in the coming weeks so they can get a sneak peek of their future learning spaces.
There’s a lot happening and even more on the horizon as we continue to keep academics and grades at the forefront. Thank you to everyone for your teamwork and dedication during this busy season! It’s going to be a great week at Seminole County Middle High School, the best school in southwest Georgia!

Multicultural Club Raises Awareness
Our Multiculture Club showed their creativity and heart this October by decorating pink-themed pumpkins for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Students used paint, ribbons, and inspirational messages to honor survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and promote early detection. The pumpkins will be displayed on the 200 Hall throughout the month—stop by to take a look and help us raise awareness!

GHSA statement on NIL
The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) voted to amend its policies regarding Name, Image, and Likeness payments to prep student-athletes. The changes are focused on curtailing any activity from what is known as NIL Collectives, a system that has permeated and fundamentally altered college athletics. NIL Collectives are shell corporations that function to exploit loopholes in NIL policy and allow donors to pay student-athletes for their athletic talents and enrollment at specific institutions –– these payments are often used in a recruiting context to maintain current players, solicit transfer athletes, or sign top level high school recruits.
With fear of the NIL Collective system seeping down from the NCAA and into the high school level, the GHSA has taken swift action to amend its rules. The new language to GHSA policy was formally voted in yesterday: “No student-athlete may be a member of nor receive compensation or any other benefit from a Collective or NIL Club. A Collective is defined as any group organized or existing for the purpose of compensating or benefiting an individual student[-]athlete or group of student athletes of a member school. NIL Clubs are defined as a group of student athletes organized or existing for the purpose of soliciting funds or other benefits from fans, members or other sources, managing or promoting NIL activities of student athletes or otherwise providing funds or other benefits to an individual student athlete or group of student athletes.”
