Northern High School Students Participate in Messiah University's Chorister's Day
On Tuesday, October 7, 2026, select members of the Northern High School choral program attended Messiah University’s annual Chorister’s Day, a full-day event designed to inspire and challenge young vocalists from schools across the region. Held in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts, the event provided students with an engaging introduction to collegiate-level choral music, performance opportunities, and campus life at Messiah University.
Throughout the day, students worked with renowned conductor Dr. Paul Rardin, Professor Emeritus of Choral Music at Temple University, as they learned and prepared several new choral selections without seeing the sheet music prior to this event. Through intensive rehearsals and musical instruction, participants refined their vocal technique, musicianship, and ensemble performance skills while collaborating with hundreds of other high school student singers.
In addition to rehearsals, students attended elective classes, observed live student-recital performances, and enjoyed lunch in the university dining hall. One of the highlights of Chorister’s Day was the opportunity to sing alongside members of Messiah University’s acclaimed Concert Choir, creating a memorable musical experience and allowing students to perform in a large collegiate choral setting.
The day concluded with a public concert showcasing the new music prepared throughout the festival, giving students the opportunity to demonstrate the results of their hard work and collaborate in a culminating performance with high school singers from across the region in addition to Messiah University's own Concert Choir. It'll be a memorable experience for years to come!
Representing Northern High School at this year’s Chorister’s Day were: (in no particular order) Elyse Hock, Lilith Murdock, Kyla Lamb, Ari Benko, Annley Ayers, Hailey Richards, Kenzie Robinson, Samantha Jeter, Tiffany Brown, Noah Mains, Lucas St Clair.
Special Olympics
The HS and MS PACE classes attended the local Special Olympics last week at Dickinson College. The students were partnered with a buddy from high school for the day. They participated in track & field events as well as games, activities, and face painting. Everyone had a great time!
Mission Central Volunteers

Elementary School News
Building Inclusion Through Unified Encore
Fifth-grade students at Northern Elementary recently participated in a training to prepare for their roles as buddies in our Unified Encore program. Students learned about autism, AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) devices, and ways to support and engage with their peers in the classroom. The training also highlighted the importance of leadership, kindness, and inclusion. We are proud of our fifth graders for taking on this leadership role and look forward to seeing the friendships and connections they help foster through Unified Encore!
Kindness Rocks
During a recent reward party, fourth grade students from the Inners-Ulrich team at Dillsburg Elementary painted colorful designs on rocks to renovate the Kindness Rocks garden in front of the school. Once the rocks were finished, students enjoyed placing them with the other rocks out front to add more color near the main entrance. They hope that other groups of students will be able to contribute more rocks to help beautify Dillsburg Elementary!
Heritage Day at Northern Elementary
Northern Elementary School celebrated Heritage Day this week with a special day dedicated to exploring the cultures, traditions, backgrounds, and history that make our school community unique!
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to learn about the rich history of our local community and discover countries and cultures from around the world represented by our students and families. Through engaging activities, displays, family projects, and opportunities to learn from others, students celebrated the many experiences and traditions that help shape who we are. Students also had the chance to share aspects of their own heritage and learn more about the backgrounds of their classmates.
Heritage Day was a wonderful opportunity to build connections, encourage curiosity, and celebrate the diversity within our school community. By learning about both our local history and cultures from around the world, students were reminded of the importance of respecting our differences, recognizing our similarities, and appreciating the unique stories that each person brings to our school.
A special thank-you goes to all of the parent and community volunteers who generously shared their time, knowledge, traditions, and experiences to make this day meaningful for our students. We are also grateful to our staff and families for their support and participation in making Heritage Day such a memorable celebration. At Northern Elementary, we are proud to celebrate the many cultures, traditions, and stories that bring our school community together.
