APRIL HUSKIE HOWL
STUDENT FOCUS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
At Shadow Butte Elementary, we love seeing students take pride in our school, and two of our youngest Huskies are leading by example! Shelby and Oakley, both kindergarteners, have taken it upon themselves to keep our playground clean. During recess, they can often be found picking up garbage, making sure our school grounds stay beautiful for everyone.
Their kindness, responsibility, and respect make them shining examples of our Shadow Butte Core Values. Not only are they great citizens, but they are also thoughtful friends who show care for their school and classmates every day. Thank you, Shelby and Oakley, for making Shadow Butte a better place! Keep up the great work! 🐾💙

Testing Tips
Testing season is around the corner for our students. Many students experience anxiety when it comes to taking a test. Here are some tips from understood.org to help:
1. Ask what's making your child feel nervous. Often just saying what's happening out loud can bring some relief.
2. Give a sneak peek at test formats. Ask the teacher to show the kids what the test will look like so they can be comfortable with the types of questions that will be asked.
3. Work on some basic strategies. Remind your child to start by reading the questions carefully. They can always check their answers before hitting submit. If they can flag a question to come back to, let them know it is okay to skip difficult questions and come back to them later.
4. Boost your child's confidence. Specific praise can remind your child that they can succeed. Praise their daily efforts on homework and outside of school.
5. Help your child feel good on test day. Make sure they get enough sleep the night before a test. Make sure they eat a protein-rich breakfast, like eggs or oatmeal. Make sure they take all necessary medications.
6. Debrief after tests. Ask your child how the test went. Did they feel prepared? Was there anything they were not prepared for?

NOTE FROM THE NURSE
Spring is here! Oh my peas, this year has flown by. For many, spring brings allergies. If your little ones happen to fall into this category please remember their allergy medications prior to school. Benadryl is the only allergy medication supplied at the school, and you may not want your child to be so sleepy. Enjoy the beautiful blooms and warmer weather as it creeps in.
Also remember as your crew grows out of clothes, or shoes, we are always thrilled to receive your donations for families in need, and for our little ones who just can’t stay out of the mud. We appreciate your generosity. Thank you for being part of our village in rearing this beautiful generation.
ATTENDANCE
If your child is absent for any reason, call the office at 208-365-0877 or email sbeattendance@isd221.net to excuse your child. Thank you for letting your child's teacher know but they do not always have the time to get the message to the front office.
If doctor appointments are necessary during the school day, please bring a doctor's note for our records.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES - called in by 2:30
- If there are changes on how your children will be going home at the end of the day, those changes must be called into the office at 208-365-0877 by 2:30pm. We cannot guarantee the change can happen after this time.
- If you need to check out your child during recess, we kindly request that you wait until the recess concludes or arrive before recess. This supports the safety of all students, as our duty staff can then focus on their designated supervision areas without any distractions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
Pick up Procedures
When pulling up in the pick up line DO NOT exit the car, if your student needs extra help, park in the lot closest to the school. This is safest method for all students and keeps the traffic flowing and from gathering on Idaho Blvd.
We ask that parents not park in the staff parking that is located on the corner of Idaho and Mesa so students and parents are not crossing traffic and in between moving cars.
Thanks again for helping us keep our students safe!
SCHOOL LUNCH
If you haven’t yet filled out a Free/Reduced application, they are available on our website, online on Infinite Campus, or at the school office.
