Message from the Principal

At Pine Avenue Elementary, we believe deeply in the partnership between home and school. When families stay connected to their child’s learning, students benefit academically, socially, and emotionally. This week offers several opportunities for families to engage—our PTO meeting, Parent‑Teacher Conferences, and our Title I Annual Parent & Family Engagement Plan review. Each event strengthens the bridge between school and home, and research consistently shows that this connection is one of the most important predictors of student success.

Decades of studies from the U.S. Department of Education, Harvard’s Family Research Project, and the National PTA all point to the same conclusion: children whose families are involved in their education perform better, attend school more regularly, show stronger social skills, and are more likely to graduate. Engagement does not require specialized knowledge or hours of extra time. Instead, it grows through simple, meaningful actions—asking about the school day, attending events, communicating with teachers, and showing interest in classroom learning.

Parent‑Teacher Conferences are one of the most effective ways to support your child’s growth. These conversations give families and teachers a shared understanding of a child’s strengths, challenges, and learning habits. When families and teachers set aligned goals, students receive consistent encouragement from the two most important places in their lives: home and school. Research shows that students whose families participate in conferences demonstrate higher achievement and stronger motivation because they see adults working together on their behalf.

Our PTO also plays a vital role in building a connected school community. PTO involvement helps families learn more about school initiatives, celebrate student accomplishments, and contribute ideas that shape the learning environment. Whether you attend meetings, volunteer at an event, or simply stay informed, your participation strengthens the sense of belonging that helps children thrive. Students feel proud when they see their families engaged in school life—it sends a powerful message that education matters.

This week also includes our Title I Annual Parent & Family Engagement Plan review. Title I is designed to ensure all students receive high‑quality instruction and equitable support. Family voice is essential in this process. By participating, families help guide how we use federal resources to support reading, math, small‑group instruction, and enrichment opportunities. Your feedback helps us design programs that reflect the needs, strengths, and hopes of our Pine Avenue community.

Family engagement is not about perfection—it is about presence. Asking your child what they learned today, reading together for a few minutes, attending a school event, or sending a quick message to a teacher all make a difference. When families and schools work as partners, students gain confidence, feel supported, and develop the habits that lead to lifelong success.

Thank you for being an essential part of our school community. Your involvement matters, and your partnership helps every Pine Avenue student grow, learn, and shine. Together, we can help every student catch up, keep up, and move up.

Your partner in education,

Dr. Konowalow

Parent Teacher Conferences Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent–Teacher Conferences will be held at Pine Avenue on October 13 and October 22, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. These meetings are an important part of our home–school partnership and give families a chance to learn more about the progress students are making so far this year.

Teachers will be sending out their conference schedules on October 1, allowing families time to review available slots and plan ahead.

During conferences, teachers will share current achievement data, classroom performance, and personalized goals for each child. Families and teachers will also discuss strategies that support students in catching‑up, keeping‑up, and moving‑up—ensuring every learner continues to grow toward mastery of grade‑level standards.

We value the time families invest in these conversations and look forward to working together to support each child’s success.

Pine Avenue Highlights Pine Avenue Highlights

Fifth grade students enjoyed a wonderful field trip to Anderson & Girls, where they explored animals, asked questions, and connected their learning to real‑world experiences. This memorable opportunity was made possible through the generous support of our PTO, and we extend a heartfelt thank‑you for continuing to invest in experiences that enrich our students’ education.

Our teachers also deserve a tremendous shout‑out. Every day, they work tirelessly to design lessons that meet students’ individual learning needs while ensuring mastery of grade‑level standards. Their commitment to high‑quality instruction, thoughtful planning, and responsive teaching creates classrooms where students feel challenged, supported, and capable. Pine Avenue is fortunate to have such dedicated educators who consistently go above and beyond for our students.
