Happy New Year!

Hopefully you are getting back into the swing of things as we have been back for two weeks already!? Thank you for taking the time to place a focus on our goals during our staff meetings and PD's! We know that a focus on measurable and obtainable goals can increase productivity and performance. Please let me know if you need any help setting up systems or giving support achieving your goals!

This newsletter will cover:

  • Building Positive Relationships
  • Classroom Management Tips on Zoom
  • Hyrbid Expectations
  • Teacher Humor (A MUST WATCH!)

Building Positive Relationships Building Positive Relationships

Improving students' relationships with teachers has important, positive and long-lasting implications for both students' academic and social development. Solely improving students' relationships with their teachers will not produce gains in achievement alone. However, those students who have close, positive and supportive relationships with their teachers will attain higher levels of achievement than those students with more conflict in their relationships.

Here are a couple ideas to establish positive relationships:

  • Know your students!
Knowing a student's interests can help you create examples to match those interests. The 2 X 10 book is a great strategy to keep track your student interests.
  • Give students meaningful, positive feedback
Notice the way that you give feedback to your students. Give regular positive feedback that is specific, genuine and brief. "I like how you kept trying even though it was hard" vs. "Good Job".

Hybrid Expectations Hybrid Expectations

Hybrid teaching is almost upon us, which means new expectations for Briarwood! Please take a moment to review our draft matrix that will be used for posters and expectation videos. Please let your Tier 1 representative know if you have any suggestions for improvement. We are in the process of making expectations videos and posters for a safe return. It is going to be extremely important to teach expectations multiple ways and often when we return. Thank you for your flexibility and persistence at this difficult time.

Self-Care Self-Care

You are truly a gift to your students, our school an community. Remember to find some time to take care of YOU!

Here are a few ideas:

  • Do something creative! Creativity builds our minds, while we relax zoning into our creative outlet.
  • Zoom with a friend
  • Keep a Happiness Binder! A happiness binder is a binder of notes you have received from colleagues, students and the community. You can keep student artwork and notes in there to bring you joy. I always bring out my Happiness Binder on my worse days.
  • Turn email and notifications off at a certain time.
