Around the School Spotlight Around the School Spotlight

Mrs. Bassich’s 4th graders were hard at work this week learning about area in math. To practice finding an area, students were given multiple objects around the room to measure. In partnerships, they selected the units in which to measure (based on the size of the object) and worked together to measure, find and record the area!

We had a great turnout at our DLI Interest night for all incoming kindergarten families who are interested in the Dual Immersion program. Our teachers have helped to build such an amazing program here at Hawks View and this is a night where their efforts really come together to showcase what the program is about. Thank you to the families who were able to join us and to our teachers for their time & effort in creating an engaging and interactive experience.

Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey

Hawks View Families,

Please take a few minutes to complete the Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey using the link in the body of this newsletter. Our partners at Studer Education are providing an opportunity for you to provide feedback anonymously. This survey will replace the Spring survey Mrs. Mitchell sent last year for feedback about your experience at Hawks View and in the Sherwood School District. We would greatly appreciate your time & participation. Your feedback will be used to celebrate our successes and to create action plans for improvement.

The survey will remain open until Thursday, April 11th. Thank you for your commitment to our success!

Reminder - State Testing Notice Reminder - State Testing Notice

As a reminder, Oregon's Statewide Assessments in science, mathematics, and English language arts will begin later this month for students in grades 3-8.

Scheduled testing will take place during the school day. For additional information on the State Assessments from the Oregon Department of Education, please review the following link.

While no single test can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, statewide tests provide information to students and families, as well as to educators and administrators, about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources are needed. Your child’s participation is important to ensure schools and districts receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Districts are rated on their participation levels as well as student performance on this exam.

Oregon law (ORS 329.479) permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. If you decide to opt your child out of the math and/or ELA state assessments, please submit the following form to your school front office by Friday, April 12 to best support our school with planning for this year's testing schedule:

  • English combined 30-day notice and opt-out form

  • Spanish combined 30-day notice and opt-out form

  • Chinese (Simplified)
