- Our annual Keeley PTA Cowboys Obstacle Run fundraiser kicks off Thursday, Feb. 20! This year, the PTA is raising money to buy educational software and instructional supplies for Keeley. We'll send more information about how you can support the PTA and the school's terrific students and staff next week.
Reading Mock STAAR
*Our campus has some big goals this year as we are going for an "A" with our accountability. This week, our 3-5 grade students will take the Reading Mock STAAR. Please make sure that our 3-5 grade students are at school this week if they are not sick. We need everyone on time. We will be a closed campus for lunch on Wednesday due to one of the grades testing and we are providing the same campus logistics on Wednesday, as testing day.
After the middle of the year MAP testing, Keeley Elementary was in the top five schools in GISD for our Reading and Math MAP scores in grades 3-5. Right up there with the academies! We are so proud of how much growth our students have made and we know they will shine bright in all of GISD this week, as well.
Attendance Week of February 3
Our attendance was low again last week. If your child is sick, please stay home. If not, we need your child at school each day.
Pre-K: 95%
Kinder: 88%
1st: 95%
2nd: 83%
3rd: 96%
4th: 94%
5th: 86%
Our goal is 98%.
National African American History Month
National African American History Month is celebrated during February each year to recognize the rich heritage and contributions of people of African-American heritage.
Help us celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of all Black Americans during African American History Month by:
- Sharing a photo or video stating why you are proud of your African American heritage and/or why it's important to celebrate diversity (using the hashtags #GISDCelebratesDiversity and #BetterTogether)
- Visiting the art show at the Granville Arts Center
- Attending Black History Celebrations in the area
Morning Car Line Drop Off Reminders
To ensure a smooth and safe drop-off process, please remember that there is no parking on campus for morning drop-off. All parents must remain in the designated car line and allow plenty of time to ensure their child is inside the building by 8:10 AM. We encourage all students to arrive by 8:00 AM to allow for a prepared start to their day.
If you prefer to avoid the drop-off line and park instead, please allow extra time to park off campus and ensure your child safely uses the crosswalks to enter the building.
Staff members assisting with drop-off have instructional responsibilities that begin promptly at 8:10 AM, and they are not available to monitor the car line after this time. Arriving early, preferably before 8:00 AM, and staying in the designated drop-off line helps us maintain a safe and efficient process for everyone.
Important Reminder: If your child is not inside the front door by 8:10 AM, you will need to park and walk them to the front entrance with your phone to complete the sign-in process using the QR code.
Thank you for your cooperation in creating a safe and organized start to the school day!
Love the Bus Month
February marks the national month-long celebration of Love the Bus—a time to show gratitude to bus drivers and assistants who ensure the safety of students as they travel to and from school. This initiative is a meaningful way to recognize drivers and monitors who service your school and create the greatest experience possible for students.

Parent Lunch Reminders
1. Sign-Ups: If you’re signed up for lunch but can no longer make it, please either remove your name from the sign-up list or contact the office so we can adjust it for you. Additionally, if you’ve reserved spots on both Wednesday and Friday, please choose one day to attend and remove the other from the list, or let the office know so we can take care of it. This helps us manage schedules more efficiently and gives families a fair opportunity to enjoy lunch with their child. We added Wednesdays to give more families the opportunities to attend. Thank you for your cooperation.
2. Food & Seating: For the safety of all students, parents may only bring food for their own child, and other students are not able to join you and your child. We appreciate your understanding in helping us follow this policy.

Safety in GISD
For the safety and security of all students and staff, Garland ISD uses the "I Love U Guys" Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method as the foundation of all responses to weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to personal safety.
GISD wants all students, parents and staff to understand these responses, expectations and actions.
For more information, visit the "I Love U Guys" website at https://iloveuguys.org/
Parking and other Reminders
- Please do not block the parking spaces outside the front office from 2:00-3:00 as parents may need to come into the office or clinic during this time.
- We've noticed that some parents are still parking in the staff parking lot, which is where our buses come in and out. We've had a close call between a parent and a daycare vehicle. For everyone’s safety, if you need to park at arrival and dismissal, please make sure to park off campus.
Outside Deliveries
To ensure the safety and well-being of all our students, we kindly remind you that outside food deliveries, including fast food, are not permitted during school hours. If your child forgets their lunch and cannot eat in the cafeteria, you are welcome to bring a sack lunch for them before 10:00 a.m. in order for it to be received in time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Birthdays
Parents may bring food of their choice to school to celebrate their child’s birthday. GISD has determined that this food must be prepackaged, individually portioned, store-bought items with the ingredients clearly labeled. These birthday treats must be distributed after all lunch periods have ended and at the end of the day prior to dismissal. Parents will not be able to attend but can drop off the items in the front office.
