Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of June 11, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS Families,
We hope you are as excited for summer break as the students and teachers. Even though the year is wrapping up, our students have been as busy as ever with days of culminating activities and celebrations.
This week, our Honors World Cultures classes celebrated Diplomacy Day, also known as Model UN. Throughout the year, students have been exploring their place in the global community and understanding how geography and climate impact human networks, communities, production and distribution. Diplomacy Day fosters civic engagement and encourages students to become active global citizens. It was wonderful to see our students having fun while addressing real-world issues and working towards making a positive impact.
Our ELL students shared and celebrated the End-of-Year ELL Event and Book Release. This event provides students with the opportunity to share their stories with each other and the staff. It was certainly a celebration of their personal achievements and growth. This is truly a time honored tradition for our ELL teachers and students.
COMM, MSA, and ALAB students enjoyed various days filled with fun, food, and bonding. All academies had quality outdoor time, including picnics and field games. COMM Day was kicked off with a showcase of student video projects, featuring seniors and throwback projects from previous years. MSA students had the opportunity to connect with classmates, alumni, and Dr. Aileen Hocbo, Director of Internal Medicine Residency at Atlanticare, to gain insights into the life of a physician. Finally, ALAB students engaged in fierce competition, including a Kahoot game about their teachers. These team building events strengthened relationships and created lasting memories for our students and teachers.
We are excited to announce that our annual Physics Boat Races were a huge success! Students showcased their creativity and teamwork. Sawyer Dilks proudly walked away with the distinction of being creator and captain of the winning boat.
Mr. Elias' classes were finishing up their final projects, which were fired in an outdoor kiln. The outdoor classroom experience allowed students to learn about the firing process while enjoying their time outside.
In anticipation of graduation practices, we celebrated Juneteenth a few days early. The day began with an opening from Mr. Bell, followed by a moving performance of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" by two of our students. Students shared poems, enjoyed keynote speeches, and participated in trivia. The courtyard was filled with traditional African American games, food, and karaoke during lunchtime. It was a day of unity, cultural appreciation, and fun.
Last weekend, the Boys Track team had a great day at the Group 4 state Championships. Ahmad Fogg won the long jump with a school record and state leading jump of 24’2 3/4”. Mike Simeon (Shot Put), Christopher Manzo (800), Christopher Griffin (Discus & Javelin), Jamil Wilkins (Triple Jump) and Ahmad Fogg (Triple Jump) all also qualified for the Meet of Champions which was held on Thursday. At the MOC, Mike, Jamil and Ahmad all placed in the top 10 and brought home medals in their respective fields.
This year, we are excited to send 5 total players to the Carpenter Cup for baseball and softball. The Tri-Cape team is made up of all stars from the CAL and Tri-County conferences. Representing the Eagles will be Cameron Flukey, Jason Salsbery, and Jacob Cagna. The Tri-Cape team has won the last two championships and continued its winning tradition with an opening round win over Lehigh County, PA yesterday 7-4. Cameron Flukey was the winning pitcher, 3 innings, 1 hit, 6 strikeouts, 0 runs. Jay Salsbery was 2-3, with a run scored. Tri- Cape's next game is today at 12:30. Next week, Madison Dollard and Sofia Spatocco will represent EHTHS in the Softball Carpenter Cup. Best of luck!!
We extend our gratitude to all the athletes and families who joined us for Meet the Coaches Night and Pet the P.A.W.S. Mr. Rutledge and Ms. Perone did a wonderful job organizing the event. Mr. Rutledge not only introduced our dedicated coaching staff, he also introduced our two newest furry students. Please CLICK HERE to watch their filming debut. Overall, the night provided opportunities for athletes and their families to connect with the coaches and learn all about their summer practice schedule and season expectations. For continued information on athletics, please visit https://ehtnjathletics.com/.
Today marks the beginning of "Senior Week" activities for our graduating seniors. Activities include a breakfast, graduation information assembly, EHT Idol Finals, and Senior Olympics. Beginning Monday, June 19, seniors are required to be in school from 7:25 to 11:55 a.m. Please remember that participation in graduation is contingent upon attending practices on June 19, 20, and 21, following school rules, and fulfilling any outstanding obligations. Graduation will take place rain or shine on Wednesday, June 21 at 5:10 p.m. in the Silver Eagle Stadium. No tickets are required and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Stay updated on graduation information by visiting the High School website.
We are still looking for volunteers for Project Graduation, which will be held on Wednesday, June 21. Volunteers are needed from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. at Egg Harbor Township High School. Volunteers will act in the capacity of chaperones, station organizers, and food service helpers. This is truly a magical evening for the seniors and we sincerely appreciate everyone who makes this event possible. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Sonia Cruz at 609-204-6993.
During the summer, the high school building will be closed due to HVAC projects. For any assistance you may need, the high school staff will be relocated to Fernwood Avenue Middle School. Our summer hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note that no programs or practices will be held indoors at the high school until at least mid-August. Students involved in athletics and activities should communicate with their coaches and advisors on their summer practice schedules and locations.
During the summer, we encourage you to stay connected with us through our school website and social media channels. We are on the final countdown!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Carugno

CLIMATE AND CULTURE
Eagle Greenery
The students of The Eagle Greenery have worked really hard over the last few weeks tearing out the weeds in the courtyard by E-wing! They are very excited to create a space for students to enjoy! We also took some time to plant some new flowers around the sign located at the entrance to the High School!

#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/
