September has been a fantastic month in Music Technology! This past month has been filled with learning the structure of music (form) and the basics of rhythm by making drum beats in Soundtrap. We are beginning to create longer projects and complete songs. We focused on form within music this past month. Students selected melodic loops as ‘A’ and ‘B’ sections of their music and produced an entire song. We added texture to the songs through the addition of bass and drum loops. The results were fantastic! You will find several student samples of amazing projects in the buttons below.
Drum Beat Battle
We learned the basics of rhythm by making drum beats in Soundtrap during the month of October. Students participated in a drum beat battle (friendly competition) in which students created an original drum beat using both step and real-time recording methods in the Soundtrap Patterns Beatmaker. There was an 8 measure requirement and students were encouraged to supplement with a melodic and/or bass loop. The results were fantastic! Students then used a google form to critique peer work (anonymously) to determine a drum beat champion for each of our three Music Tech classes. The three champions were then presented to students for all classes to vote for an overall champion for the entire Music Technology program. Congratulations to Wyatt A.
