Building Momentum Together

Aloha Damien ʻOhana,

As we begin our second week of the school year, we want to thank our students, families, faculty, and staff for helping us start the year with such positive energy. The first week is always filled with new routines, new classes, new faces, and plenty of excitement—and it has been wonderful to see our campus come alive once again.

Now that we have made it through the first week, we turn our attention to building strong habits and establishing a successful rhythm for the year ahead. Our students are settling into their classes, getting to know their teachers, and reconnecting with friends and classmates. This is an important time to encourage your child to take ownership of their learning, stay organized, and ask questions when they need support.

A few simple things can make a meaningful difference:

  • Check in regularly about assignments, upcoming assessments, and how your child is feeling about school. Schoology will become your best resource!
  • Encourage consistent routines for sleep, meals, homework, and preparation for the next school day.
  • Review school communications and important dates so that your family stays informed.
  • Encourage your child to get involved in campus life through athletics, clubs, service, faith formation, and other activities.
  • Remind your child that asking for help is a strength. Our teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff are here to help students grow and succeed.

Viriliter Age,

DMS Faculty and Staff

It was a great first week so far - good teachers. Itʻs also nice being in the upper grade classrooms. (Makena). Itʻs nice to reunite with my friends and make new friends. This teaches me how to be open to new situations and people. (Keitlin)

It was good. I made two new friends! The teachers were very nice. The only downside was that classes were far apart. I love that I donʻt have to carry around too many books!

Mission Peru

This past July, five adventurous Damien students and two amazing chaperones participated in a weeklong mission trip to Peru volunteering to build homes in Jicamarca. The first time Damien has participated in this worthwhile and transformational experience. Click here to read our student inspiring reflections! We will be sharing more about how campus ministry and faith form at Damien in upcoming newsletters.

One of our teachers (Rivas Roblin) also participated in the staff only version of the retreat.
