🍎 Principal News 🍎
Malvern Families,
It was so good to see our Red Hawks back on campus this Friday after the long and unexpected break. Having our scholars back together brought so much life and energy to campus!
As we move into this week, we want to share a few updates around rescheduled events. Our Kindness Challenge will continue as planned, including fun dress-up days and special activities that encourage our scholars to show kindness at school and at home. We love seeing our students live out what it means to be caring, respectful, and kind Red Hawks.
We will also hold our Red Hawk Rally this Friday at 8:15 a.m., where we’ll celebrate our January award winners. Families are always welcome, and I hope you can join us as we recognize our students for their hard work and positive choices.
Please note: Open Gym originally scheduled for Friday, January 31 has been rescheduled to Friday, February 6. Open Gym is open to students in grades 3–5 from 3:40–4:40 p.m. The cost is $5, with snacks and drinks available for $1 each.

Severe Weather Preparedness
It’s that time of year! ❄️ Please take a moment to review MISD’s inclement weather procedures so you know exactly where to find updates when winter weather rolls in. Staying informed keeps everyone safe and prepared!
February's Character Trait - Honesty
As January comes to a close, we are wrapping up Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood and our character trait, Honesty. Students practiced listening, sharing their feelings respectfully, and telling the truth—even when it’s hard.
Family Tip: Try taking turns talking at home and encourage your child to use “I feel…” statements. Praise honesty to help children feel safe learning from mistakes.
February Begins with the Great Kindness Challenge!
February starts with our Great Kindness Challenge, where students will focus on spreading kindness across campus. Be sure to check the Malvern Newsletter for our fun dress-up days during Kindness Week!
February Focus: Habit 6 - Synergize
Character Trait: Kindness
This month, students will learn Habit 6: Synergize, which means working together and valuing everyone’s ideas. We’ll connect this with Kindness by practicing teamwork, inclusion, and helping others.
Family Tip: Give your child teamwork jobs at home, talk about everyone’s strengths, and ask, “How did you show kindness today?”
Thank you for partnering with us as we continue building kind leaders at Malvern! 💙
Student Well-Being
At Malvern, student well-being is a top priority. Throughout the year, our counselor provides age-appropriate lessons that help students recognize “big” feelings, identify trusted adults, and practice coping strategies. Each elementary campus also displays the required “You Are Not Alone” poster so students know support is always available.
Our approach to suicide prevention focuses on helping students:
- Manage their emotions
- Understand that tough moments are temporary
- Notice when someone may need help
- Know who they can trust
- Use healthy coping skills
- Find support when they need it
Thank you for partnering with us to support the emotional health of every Red Hawk. Please review MISD’s Suicide Prevention Parent and Guardian Newsletter by selecting the button below.
Visitors and Volunteers
MISD requires every visitor/volunteer to report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor badge. At the camera outside of the school, please state your name, show your ID, and explain why you are here at school.
A software system called “Hallpass School Visitor Management” is used to scan in visitors. A valid, unexpired state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. If you arrive on campus without your driver’s license, you will be asked to leave and return to campus when you have identification. A photocopy or photo on your telephone of your ID will not be accepted.
MISD requires that volunteers complete a criminal background check every school year. If you plan to volunteer anywhere in the building or chaperone a field trip, please complete the required volunteer application.
MISD will not offer a grace period this school year for you to complete your annual background check. All background checks must be completed and approved before you can serve on campus.
Hawk Squad Call to Action
Hawk Squad is a fun, high-energy volunteer program where we welcome students each morning with high fives, compliments, positivity, and enthusiasm as they head into class! Getting started is simple—just complete the standard MISD volunteer background check and fill out the form linked here. (Please note: by completing this form you are giving your personal information to a Malvern parent.)
In addition to morning greetings, we also help out at various school events throughout the year. Our goal is to grow Hawk Squad into a strong and lasting tradition—and we’d love for you to be a part of it!
Active members will have the opportunity to purchase an exclusive, custom Hawk Squad t-shirt to wear and keep.
We welcome everyone—dads, moms, grandparents, and more! If you're ready to have fun and make a difference, sign up and join the squad. We can’t wait to meet you!
