A Few Words From the Principal

Happy May Day!

It is so difficult to believe that we have less than 20 days of school left in the year. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. This is a great opportunity for you and your student to take a moment to thank the people here at Monticello Trails Middle School who impact your lives everyday.

Wednesday, May 6 is our final Showcase Night from 4:30pm - 6:00pm and we will have our Talent Show in the commons starting at 4:45pm. Come and celebrate the work of our students with the work that will be on display from many of their classes. See below for more information on some of the things that will be on display.

Have a great weekend and we hope to see you at some of the events that are happening next week.

Changes to KSHSAA Sports Physical Submissions

This school year, MVHS and DHS transitioned to using the Bound application in order to process student athlete physicals and athlete information. The middle schools will be following for the 26-27 school year. KSHSAA physicals for the 27-27 school year will be uploaded by parents to the Bound app/website. Physicals will no longer be turned in to the school in person or online. More instructions are in the graphic below. A reminder that all physicals for the 26-27 school year must be completed after April 1st, 2026.

A link to the PDF copy of the most recent KSHSAA Physical Form is below. Please complete and take with you to your student's medical appointment.

Social Media Creation During School Hours

Parents - we have noticed an increasing trend of students using their MacBooks to create social media content, such as "vlogging" (recording themselves working on classwork) during class time. This is a distraction as well as a privacy concern during the school day. Thank you for speaking with your student regarding responsible uses of their time and the safe production and consumption of social media. We will continue to reinforce the appropriate use of their device while they are here at school.

Summer Mental Health Support

The Anxiety Center at Renew Counseling has summer programs available to assist adolescents 12-18 year olds dealing with anxiety and depression. This program is designed to work alongside and enhance ongoing individual therapy for adolescents facing anxiety and depression.

By utilizing Acceptance Commitment Therapy and DBT skills, the program seeks to foster a teen's cognitive flexibility and adaptability in several key areas, including:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Relationship effectiveness
  • Self-compassion

Summer Program Schedule

  • Morning Closed Group Program: June 1st - July 9th, Mon-Thurs from 9-12pm
  • Afternoon Open Group Program: Monday-Thursday, 3-6pm

Help us Celebrate - Teacher and Staff Appreciation Next Week

The PTA, with your help, is excited to celebrate our incredible teachers and staff and show our appreciation for all they do throughout the year! We have a fun week planned and would love your support to make it extra special:

Monday – Breakfast for the Best - We will start their week off right with a delicious breakfast.

Tuesday – Taco Tuesday - Sign up to bring items and help us treat our teachers to a fiesta! (See SignUpGenius link below)

Wednesday – Trail Mix Bar - We’re creating a snack station where teachers can build their own trail mix.

Thursday – Supply Drive Deliveries - The donated classroom supplies will be delivered to help restock and support our teachers.

Friday – Sonic Drinks - We’ll wrap up the week by delivering refreshing Sonic drinks to each teacher.

Sign-up if you're able to help (option to donate money or food included in the sign up). Thank you in advance!

Showcase Night - Teacher Thank You Station

We’re excited to host a Teacher Thank You Station at the 4th Quarter Showcase next Wednesday in conjunction with Teacher Appreciation!

Teacher Appreciation Week begins May 4th, and we consistently hear from teachers that one of the most meaningful ways they feel valued is through a heartfelt note from their students.

Please consider encouraging your student to write a note expressing their appreciation for all their teachers do at the station. These messages truly make a lasting impact! As a small thank you, students who write a note will receive an ice cream voucher from Andy’s Frozen Custard.

Thank you for helping us make our teachers feel appreciated!

After Showcase Night, continue the fun at Tropical Smoothie Cafe! After Showcase Night, continue the fun at Tropical Smoothie Cafe!
