Moving Day - Volunteers and Boxes Needed!
As the year draws to a close, MOVING DAY is upon us! This is the time after school on Friday, June 5th, when we gather as a community to help clean out the classrooms and move our students into their new space for next year! It takes MANY hands, but can be a satisfying way to close out the year. Please join us!
ACORN Garden Work Party - Friday, May 22, 10:30 – 12:30
Join us in the Clay Street Garden for a couple of good hours work! There are lots of weeds to be pulled and other jobs to help put the garden to rest for summer.
Adopt The Garden - Summer help wanted!
The Clay St. Garden is in need of families to adopt the garden for a week this summer. Being a Garden Guardian means that you help take care of it for a week (or more!) – checking on irrigation, weeding, harvesting and some bunny care. Gardening expertise or experience is not necessary! Once you have signed up, we will review watering and harvesting with you before your scheduled week arrives. For more information or to sign up to volunteer email Leann Joyce at leann.tourzan@siskiyouschool.org
Plant Sale - Friday, June 6
The ACORN program plant sale will be on Moving Day, Friday, June 6, out in the front of the school. The children have a variety of gorgeous starts to send home with you! Look forward to zinnias, marigolds, calendula, poppies, basil, tomatoes, cucumbers and more!!
Blue Bag Wish List Item Granted!
New books for Ohana! Thank you, Siskiyou School community, for your generous donations to the blue bag program! With the money raised we were able to grant another wish! Ten new sets of books for the Ohana program. Keep up the good work Siskiyou School Community!
Class 7 - Raven Class
There is something truly special about being a Raven. It is more than a class name; it is a shared journey, a weaving together of curiosity, courage, and wonder. The Ravens are stepping more fully into themselves each day, meeting the world with open minds and growing confidence. In our classrooms, learning is not simply about gathering facts; it is about experiencing the world deeply and meaningfully. Each lesson, each project, each rite of passage becomes part of who they are becoming. There is a reverence in this work that we all feel, and it is a joy to witness how these students carry that sense of purpose and belonging into everything they do.
We have recently entered the world of Mechanics, guided by the thoughtful and inspiring presence of Ms. Benson. It is always such a gift for the students to experience a new teaching voice, and they have embraced her style with enthusiasm. Together, they are exploring mechanical advantage through the study of simple machines, the lever, pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, and screw. What has been most exciting is watching their awareness expand beyond the classroom, as they begin to notice these tools everywhere in daily life. This block meets the seventh grader beautifully, as they are ready to engage with cause and effect, to see how human ingenuity shapes the physical world, and to feel their own capacity to understand and influence it. This understanding is already sparking inspiration for their highly anticipated Simple Machines projects, a beloved 7th-grade rite of passage. Having watched older classes design and build, they now step into their turn with eagerness and pride, continuing a tradition that connects them to those who came before.
As we finish out our 7th-grade year together, we will move into magnetism and optics, where wonder deepens even further. I am especially excited to bring my photography background into our work as they experience and process the Camera Obscura together. There is a moment, quiet and almost breathless, when the outside world appears inside a darkened space, transformed into an upside-down image of light and color. It feels like magic, yet it is rooted in the laws of physics, inviting students to hold both mystery and understanding at once. Experiences like this live on within them, shaping not only what they know, but how they see.
Alongside our scientific explorations, the Ravens have also been immersed in their art block with the wonderful Lindy Kehoe, diving into color theory and the joy of creation. Their beautiful oil pastel fruit designs on tote bags are vibrant expressions of their growing skill and artistic confidence.
Altogether, these weeks have been full, rich, and alive with discovery, true to the heart of what it means to be a Raven.
~Ms. Chlebowski

The Inhale: A Summer Retreat for Women Ready to Breathe
June 8–12 | Ashland + Mount Shasta
This June, Maraya Brown is hosting an intimate women’s retreat here in our own backyard — a space to unplug from the pace of life and reconnect with yourself in a deeper, more meaningful way. Over five days, we’ll gather in beautiful natural settings around Ashland and Mount Shasta for a blend of nervous system regulation, women’s circles, learning about hormones and vitality, constellation work, and restorative experiences designed to help you feel clear, grounded, and fully alive again. This is for women who give a lot — in their work, their families, their communities — and are ready to receive, reflect, and realign. Vulnerability and honesty are pre-requisites :)
Because this community means so much to me, I’ve set aside a limited number of local rate spaces for women who live nearby and won’t require lodging or transportation. If you’ve been feeling the pull for space, clarity, and connection with other thoughtful, growth-oriented women, I would love to invite you in. There are only a few spots remaining, and we’ll keep the group small and intentional.
